For Immediate Release March 30, 2021 Air Borealis & Nunatsiavut Group of Companies Confirm That Torngat Mountains Base Camp For Immediate Release March 30, 2021 Air Borealis & Nunatsiavut Group of Companies Confirm that Torngat Mountains Base Camp Will Not Open for Tourism and General Visitation in 2021 Happy Valley—Goose Bay, NL— In partnership with the Nunatsiavut Government, Air Borealis and the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies will not be opening the Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station (TMBC) for tourism and general visitation during the 2021 season. The Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station is located on Labrador Inuit Land adjacent to the southern boundary of the Torngat Mountains National Park. “The ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis continues to make the safe, practical operation of the Base Camp impossible for tourists and general visitors at this time. Despite this setback, we remain deeply committed to our work with Air Borealis, the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies and Parks Canada towards a sustainable, long-term future for Base Camp that will let visitors and researchers continue to experience our homeland,” says Nunatsiavut’s Minister of Language, Culture and Tourism, Jim Lyall. Air Borealis and the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies look forward to welcoming visitors to enjoy the upgrades to site facilities, and additional experiences that will continue to exceed guest expectations in 2022.
