Día De Los Muertos! Rotary Club of West Sacramento Just in Case You Missed It, Our Second Pop-Up Meeting of the Year Was a Huge Volume 71, No Rotary Happens Making Dreams Real Chips from the Buzzsaw Weekly Newsletter of the Mighty Día de los Muertos! Rotary Club of West Sacramento Just in case you missed it, our second Pop-up Meeting of the year was a huge Volume 71, No. 17 success! Katie Villegas was our gracious host and opened her home to our November 1, 2019 Mighty Club members last Friday evening. The theme for the meeting was Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos- a multi-day Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and elsewhere by people of Mexican heritage, (and by the rest of us who look for reasons to have a good time!) The holiday typically involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember friends and family members who have passed on. For the Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento, it was an excuse to get dressed up, wear some makeup, eat some wonderful food, drink a cold cerveza and hang out with Katie and Oscar! Club photographer, Dave “Ansel” Kamminga had a previous commitment and couldn’t make the meeting but, with the miracle that is the internet, this editor was able to pull down a few pics from (I think) the Facebook pages of those who attended. As you can clearly see by the pictures, our club is nothing if not enthusiastic when it comes time to dress up and have fun! Thank you Katie (and Oscar) for a great way to spend Club 558 of District 5180 PO Box 288 a Friday! West Sacramento, CA 95691 Meets Every Friday at Club Pheasant, 12:15 Guess which one’s Dustin... EVERLYPEDIA (formerly The Everly Brothers Index – TEBI) Coordinated by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik A complete (as far as is possible) index/encyclopaedia on every facet of Don & Phil Everly, covering their lives, careers, influences and connections – of course, from us as huge fans, with all due respect to them and their families. For more recording information, see also the various detailed discography lists on the EBI website (Everly.Net); for lyrics to songs, please refer to the Lyric List on the same website (http://www.everly.net/file/disco/disco.htm ). KEY/GLOSSARY/NOTES: • WB: Warner Brothers • EBs: The Everly Brothers • LPs, CDs etc. are generally (but not always) referred to throughout as ‘albums’. • Other than important (re)releases, only the original/initial album release is referred to. • Entries are listed under the first letter, including titles that start with a bracket, e.g. ‘(Why Am I) Chained To A Memory’, but exclude ‘The’ in which case they are listed under the second word. • Surnames or family names come first in the index. • Headings are coloured blue for song and album titles and maroon for everything else. • All words in bold type in the text are cross-references to other main entry headings – although no doubt we’ve missed a few! • Entries are generally aimed to be informative and we have attempted to keep them brief though some are lengthy due to the importance and significance in the life and career of Don and Phil. However, in some cases, due to the limitations of space and the huge volume of material available elsewhere, details have been kept to a bare minimum and relate mainly to the ‘Everly connection’ – e.g.

Under the ownership of Graham, The Fillmore quickly became established as the hub around which the SF underground surfaced and took the main stage. By 1968 following the assassination of MLK, however, the neighborhood around the original Fillmore auditorium at Geary and Fillmore had become unstable, and Graham moved operations across town to the Carousel Ballroom.

The first born and only son of…his Mom and Dad, Valentino’s real name was Salvatore Spampinato until his Dad suggested he change it to Sal Valentino. Sal grew up in the north beach section of San Francisco. In 1964, he received an offer to play a regular gig at a local club. Needing a band, he called childhood friend and songwriter/guitarist Ron Elliott, who recruited drummer John Petersen, rhythm guitarist/singer Declan Mulligan and bassist Ron Meagher. They called themselves "The Stepping Stones” for their first few gigs until they were discovered by prominent San Francisco DJ, Tom Donahue, who quickly signed the band to his label, Autumn Records, and the Beau Brummels were born. The band released "Laugh, Laugh" in December as their debut single. The song peaked at number fifteen in February 1965. "Just a Little", the follow-up single, fared even better on the charts, peaking at number eight. Valentino appeared with the band as The Beau Brummelstones on The Flintstones ," which originally aired on December 3, 1965, while your editor celebrated his 2nd birthday. Sal’s run with the Beau Brummels had him crossing path’s and performing with some of the biggest stars in show business and he shared one story after another with us, dropping names like a B-29 bomber- Dick Clark, Sammy Davis Jr., Tom Wallace, Mike Douglas, the Everly Brothers just to name a few.
