12 manilascope.com | AUGUST 2017 Ovation Productions presents Liam Gallagher of Oasis on his first ever concert in Manila on August 14, 2017 at the Mall Of Asia Arena. Being voted as the greatest frontman of all time in a 2010 reader poll by Q magazine, many bands and artists have cited Oasis as an influence or inspiration, including the Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Maroon 5, and Coldplay, among others. Oasis is a five-piece band from Manchester, England led by Liam and Noel Gallagher, two brothers from public housing, who became the defining musical act for a generation. Noel’s proudly British lyrics; choruses that could make your throat clench and your heart threaten to burst; Liam’s sneering vocals and pissed-off posture; the cocktail of ego, camaraderie, and one-upmanship that made Oasis as entertaining and volatile offstage as on. The band’s third album, “Be Here Now” in 1997 set a new record as the fastest selling album in UK Chart history. “What’s the Story Morning Glory” was even more successful, becoming the third-best selling album in British history. Liam Gallagher was praised for his vocal contributions to Oasis, and his presence made the band a popular live act. However, his attitude also won him much attention from the British press who often ran stories concerning his alleged behaviour. Liam’s erratic behaviour, distinctive singing style, and abrasive attitude have been the subject of commentary in the press; he remains one of the most recognizable figures in modern British music. His voice has been compared to John Lennon’s. He would sarcastically claim to be Lennon re-incarnated, despite being born eight years prior to Lennon’s death. He has stated he has no clear influence other than John Lennon and “music” itself, and has been known to incorporate many different forms, such as punk, indie and new wave, and recently has explored elements of jazz with Beady Eye, his band after Oasis broke up. Songs such as “Live Forever”, “Lyla”, “Don’t Go Away”, “Slide Away” and “Champagne Supernova are cited as examples of Liam’s best work. He would sing with the microphone coming in the closest contact with him between his upper lip and nose, rather than directly in front of the mouth as is the case with most singers. Gallagher once revealed that the reason he sings with his arms behind his back is because it allows him to project more power through his voice. Manilascope is a proud media partner. If I can parody Jollibee’s sappy short ads right about now, the ultimate setting will be in a bulalohan or mamihan. Because when the rains feel like it’ll never ever go away and I have no chance to play, the soup spots are where I’ll be hanging out to find my “the One”. But Metro Manila’s 613.94km² land area has soup spots in every nook and cranny. manilascope.com | AUGUST 2017 21 TECH REVIEW 6 REASONS WHY YOU DON’T DESERVE SONY’S EXPERIA XZ PREMIUM

By Stela Nacionales, Contributor

What separates a winner from a mediocre? Winners know which battles to fight, and which battles to reconsider.

It would be safe to say that in the current state of smartphone 3. Capable of 1GB/sec download speed – That’s the fantasy wars, Sony understands that their phone won’t be the first isn’t it? We may need to live in Korea or Japan first, to actually you’ll pick up or consider. Recently, we’ve seen Sony cleaning appreciate this systems upgrade. up clutter and streamlining their phone series. In other words, they’ve decided to focus on their high end phones and prioritize 4. 19 megapixels rear camera - These phone cameras need the high end consumers. Granted, they would be losing a nice to stop upping their camera game. They’re destroying the slice of the mid and low-end market. I, however, approve that camera business. I don’t mean disrespect to our photography those with the big bucks spend more and spare less when it aficionados, but the average Juan and Juana are quite content comes to tech toys. with their phone cameras for their social media content and daily life audiovisual needs. Last week in Barcelona, at the Mobile World Congress, the Experia XZ Premium was unveiled. Here are some of what you’ll 5. 13 megapixels front-facing camera – So now our pores and be getting in exchange for your paltry 50, 000 pesos, which is wrinkles will be clearly magnified every time we selfie. Why the starting retail cost of Sony’s new baby. would Experia even dare do that to us?? Those photoshop apps will be making a killing refining our stunning self-portraits. 1. 4k screen resolution or 807 pixels per inch - You’ve seen Random fun fact: Asians use auto-beautification apps most how a Sony 62” TV can look when it comes to image resolution. compared to other ethnicities. Barely there pixels. Which is fantastic from a really wide screen. But when you come to think of it, why would you carry around 6. That’s how Hashtag big bucks. shiny and glossy the new Experia finish is. Bring out your Ray Bans and Chanel sunnies if you intend to play with this gadget. 2. HDR screen – We’re all more than happy with an HD screen. It’s glary. Sony decides to add an R at the end which then upgrades us to high-dynamic range (HDR) from your usual high definition (HD). Overall, Sony Experia XZ Premium gets 3 stars from me for the What does it matter? The higher the dynamic range of images marketing strategy and fighting spirit. But 2 stars are lost in the on a screen, the worse your vertigo will be. Just kidding!
