His parents were professors at UNC-Chapel Hill and he attended Chapel Hill High School. He worked at The Daily Tar Heel for 30 years, doing everything from paste up to delivering the paper. Three years ago, he started driving for Uber and Lyft after real- izing he could turn his love for driving into some extra cash. He started out driving the bar crowd “to atone for the sins of youth,” but now he drives from 3 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. going to and from the airport. His long history in Chapel Hill now lends itself to outsmart- ing traffic and giving visitors the scoop on his hometown. Locate’s Ashley Peterson spoke with Wynn to learn how he gets around the Chapel Hill area.

There’s no doubt that Chapel Hill is a college town. Tar heel fans from all over the state bring traffic to a stall during basketball season, and students overflow onto Franklin Street after running from the Dean Dome every March. Cult favorite restaurants and bars line the streets of downtown, frequented by students and townies alike. A renowned public university — UNC-Chapel Hill is a major research institution and hosts UNC hospitals on South campus. Students, staff, faculty and alumni are usually drawn to Chapel Hill for the professional or academic opportunities, but many stick around for years to come. Commuting is common and it’s likely you’ll find someone with a UNC connection, even down the road toward Duke. Chapel Hill is a small town, but neighborhoods have a strong community aspect and attract different folks.
