CHRISTIAN WIESER Das Jahr 2011 stand in der Zoologischen Abteilung ganz unter dem Thema „Ratten“: die Vorbereitungen und der Aufbau der Themenausstellung, die Betreuung der Hauptakteure, beginnend mit der Aufzucht der Jungtiere bis zur Präsentation und der Arbeit mit den Tieren im Rahmen von Führungen, Aktionstagen und „Workshops“. Diese taxono- mische Einheit umfasst in Europa innerhalb der Schmetterlinge die artenreichste Familie der Noctuidae (Eulenfalter), ebenfalls die Nolidae, Notodontidae, Euteliidae und nach neuesten taxonomischen Erkenntnissen auch die Familie der Erebidae. In die Letztere wurden mittlerweile auch die ehemaligen Familien der Arctiidae (Bärenspinner) und der Lymantriidae (Trägspinner) als Unterfamilien inkludiert. Die Neuaufstellung erfordert die Zusammenführung der Abb. 1: Auch der Schwammspinner (Lymantria dispar) zählt mittlerweile zu den ursprünglichen Sammlung des Landesmuseums mit den Erebidae und somit zu den Eulenfaltern im weiteren Sinne. Lyonia 9(1) 2006 - Biodiversity and Cultural Diversity in the Andes and Amazon 1: Biodiversity Volume 9 (1) February 2006 ISSN: 0888-9619 Introduction In 2001, the 1. Congress of Conservation of Biological and Cultural Diversity in the Andes and the Amazon Basin in Cusco, Peru, attempted to provide a platform to bridge the existing gap between Scientists, Non Governmental Organizations, Indigenous Populations and Governmental Agencies. This was followed by a 2. Congress in 2003, held in Loja, Ecuador together with the IV Ecuadorian Botanical Congress. The most important results of these conferences were published in Lyonia 6 (1/2) and 7 (1/2) 2004. Since then, the "Andes and Amazon" Biodiversity Congress has become a respected institution, and is being held every two years in Loja, Ecuador, where it has found a permanent home at the Universidad Tecnica Particular. In 2005, the 3. Congres on Biological and Cultural Diversity of the Andes and Amazon Basin joined efforts with the 2. Dry Forest Congress and the 5. Ecuadorian Botanical Congress, to provide an even broader venue. The Tropical Dry Forests of Latin America as well as the Andes and the Amazon Basin represent one of the most important Biodiversity-Hotspots on Earth. At the same time, both systems face imminent dangers due to unsustainable use. Attempts of sustainable management and conservation must integrate local communities and their traditional knowledge. Management decisions need to include the high importance of natural resources in providing building materials, food and medicines for rural as well as urbanized communities. The traditional use of forest resources, particularly of non-timber products like medicinal plants, has deep roots not only in indigenous communities, but is practiced in a wide section of society. -

The South American species cur- rently placed in Phragmatobia Stephens are revised to two new genera, Andesobia Schmidt and De Freina, gen. n., and Patagobia Schmidt and De Freina, gen. n. (subtribe Spilosomina). Both Andesobia and Patagobia exhibit adaptations to high altitude habitats, including micropterous females in Andesobia (Patagobia females are unknown) and diurnal flight of males. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract A new species of the genus Watsonidia Toulgoët, from the Amazon region of Peru, is described, with two morphotypes. Characters of males and female genitalia of both morphotypes and the genetic analyses (COI) that support the polymorphism of the species are provided. The habitus of males and females is also illustrated. Key words: Citizen Science, Phaegopterina, Tambopata river, Taxonomy Introduction The neotropical genus Watsonidia (Toulgoët, 1981) was proposed with Glaucostola reimona Schaus as its type spe- cies. The original concept of this genus also included Glaucostola pardea Schaus. In the same publication, Toulgoët (1981) described the species W. porioni and, years later (Toulgoët 1986) described the fourth known species of the genus: W. navatteae Toulgoët. The species W. reimona and W. pardea were described based on the individuals col- lected in Buena Vista, Colombia. Toulgoët (1991) noted on the basis of the figures of the types (Watson 1971) and material of the two species from Lita / San Lorenzo (Ecuador) that there were no differences in the morphology of the genital capsules of the males. -

However, agricultural intensification has encouraged fencerow removal to enlarge cropping areas, reducing farmland biodiversity and its associated ecosystems services. In the present work, we assess the role of field margins in retaining farmland biodiversity across the sunflower cropping area of Argentina. Flower-visiting insects and entomophilous plants were intensively sampled along the margins of sunflower fields, in eight locations across eastern Argentina. We recorded 149 species of flowering plants and 247 species of flower-visitors. Plants and arthropods were mostly natives. Most of the floral visi- tors captured provide ecosystem services to agriculture. Our results show that many species of beneficial insects and native plants occur in semi-natural linear features in the intensively managed farmland of Argentina. Field margins may constitute the last refugia of native plant species and their associated fauna in farmland mosaics. Conservation of field margins in Argentine farmland may therefore be essential for preserving biodiversity and associated ecosystem services. -
