Playing Time Evaluation

1. Availability- on time, great attitude, great effort, eligible. 2. Discipline- being coachable, controlling oneself, striving for excellence 3. Skill- ability to make plays and run an offense/defense.

Basketball Rules

• Respect authority- obey the coaches • Be on time- no excuse for being late • Do not miss practice- practice is a must; missing will put you on the discipline plan and will affect playing time. • If you quit you cannot come back- the consequence to quitting is you don’t get another chance • Playing time is not fair or equal- the best player will play based off of the playing time evaluation.

Locker Room Rules

• No videoing or picture taking in the locker room • No posting videos or pictures from inside the locker room • No hazing • No guests or anyone of the opposite sex in the locker room. • No provocative music or videos in the locker room

Player/ Coach Relationship

• Relationship built off of trust, respect, and love. • Players will be coached hard. • All players will be treated equally. • The goal is for the coaches to invest in each players life and make an impact. • The hope is that players walk away from the program knowing they were pushed, coached well, and loved.

Equipment Policies • Do NOT steal equipment or other people’s property. • Do not leave equipment in the gym, out of your lockers or in your vehicle. If you do you may not get it back and there will be a healthy reminder not to do it again. • No player is to be in the Coaches office or the equipment room without permission. • All HS game Jerseys and mask must be turned in after every game. • Basketballs must be sanitized and put on the rack at the end of each practice. • Hang up equipment after every practice to dry • Make sure that your area in the locker room stays clean of tape, cups and any other debris. • Shoes are for use during practice and games- do not wear them outside of the gym. • Practice Jerseys and shorts are not to be cut or altered in any way. You will have to replace them if they are lost or damaged. • Travel bags must be turned back in at the end of the year. If lost or severely damaged, you will have to replace them.

Covid Policy

If a player is out (quarantined) for more than 10 days because he has Covid or has been around someone who has had Covid, he must practice 2 full days before he can play.

Sickness Policy

• If a player is sick and has to miss practice, both player and parent/guardian must contact me. • If a player is sick and has to miss practice and he and a parent/guardian do not contact me, the player will be treated as if he just missed practice. There will be a consequence. • Missing practice will affect playing time. Regardless if sick or not.

Parental Support

• Much needed and appreciated at every level! • Just like a great basketball team, the parental network must work together and share responsibilities in order to have an efficient season. • Remember that parents are parents and not coaches… your primary job as a parent is to support your student/athlete and support the athletic program… don’t undermine what a coach is teaching, it will only confuse the athlete… Your words are very powerful and your kids are listening… giving advice is different than tearing down or undermining a coach.

Parent/Guardian Concern

• All concerns about Basketball (playing time, position playing, or any issue within that spectrum) MUST be initiated 1st by the athlete. • Coaches will not talk to parents/guardians about these issues unless first contacted or made aware of a particular situation by the athlete. • Do not post comments on social media about coaches or situations… that is not appropriate and sets a poor example. • Once the athlete has made the head coach aware of an issue/situation, the parent is allowed to contact the head coach and set up a coach/parent/athlete meeting to discuss the situation. • If the athlete and parent feel a situation isn’t resolved they can then contact the Athletic Director Lucas Aslin.

Bus Policy

• All players will ride to the game and home from the game. No player will ride with anyone else. • All players will have an assigned seat

Eligibility / Grades

• Being eligible is a must to play. According OSSAA guidelines, every student athlete must have no grade below a D. • Eligibility will be sent out on a week to week basis by Mrs. Dixon. • If player is ineligible or is on probation, that player is to make up that grade on their own time. They are to not miss practice. • Players may seek help in classes from the coaches before school and/or during planning periods. • Players on the ineligible list will not travel with the team. Traveling with the team is earned. If there is a home game they may sit on the bench but not dress out.

Recruiting

• The coaching staff at Wynnewood High School will do everything they can to make sure if a player has the desire to play in college they will be given the opportunity. • With Hudl, players are in control of their highlight video. That is your responsibility as a player! • Social media is another big outlet for publicity (Facebook, , , etc.) • This does not guarantee that you will get a scholarship, but will allow you to be exposed and seen by a variety of coaches / levels. • Make sure all recruiting goes through the head basketball coach. • The 2 major factors in getting a college scholarship are academics, and game film. • Take your ACT test early; preferably by the fall of your Junior year. • Go to exposure camps early (you can start the summer of your Freshman year). • Communicate with head coach about recruiting and what you want out of it.

Lettering Criteria

• Play in one varsity game (this does not include suiting up)

Discipline Plan Discipline is vital to the success of a basketball team at every level. Without discipline, a basketball team has no direction or focus because no one is accountable for their actions. The amount of discipline a team has will determine its success both in the classroom and on the basketball court. Everyone is accountable for their own actions. The discipline plan MUST be backed by the administration, board members and parents. Any discipline plan that is not backed will not be effective. Actions that put an athlete on the Discipline Plan • Absent or tardy to athletic hour • Missing / Late for practice or meeting • Missing / late for any mandatory or required event **Only things excused are funeral and major surgery**

DISCIPLINE PLAN • 1st offense- 1 Savage Mile, 20 made free throws • 2nd offense- 2 Savage Miles, 25 made free throws • 3rd offense- 3 Savage Miles, 30 made free throws • 4th offense- 4 Savage Miles, 35 made free throws

When the 4th Offense is reached, a parent athlete meeting will be scheduled to discuss the issues. The player will not be eligible (will not be allowed to travel and cannot suit up) for competition until the parent meeting is completed. IN GAME OFFENSES

• Intentional foul- (Coaches discretion) player will be pulled from the game. He will sit out for the remainder of that half regardless of the situation. Player will have 5 court sweeps. 25 made free throws. • Technical foul- player will be pulled from the game immediately and will not play the rest of the game. Player will have 10 court sweeps. One Savage mile. 20 made free throws.

ITEMS SEPARATE FROM THE DISCIPLINE PLAN

Any major offense that deals with police authorities will be handled at the discretion of the head basketball coach. Each offense will be looked at separately and will be dealt with in due process. Punishment could range from being put on the discipline plan to automatic dismissal from the team.
