Bob Weir of Dead & Co. Plays D'angelico

For Immediate Release: BOB WEIR OF DEAD & CO. PLAYS D’ANGELICO GUITAR ON STAGE TO HELP PROMOTE CHARITY AUCTION Weir Performed “Peggy-O” with the Signed, Customized Guitar in Worcester, MA Last Night WORCESTER, MA – With Dead & Company getting rave reviews across the Northeast, Bob Weir continued a relatively-new tradition of playing a signed guitar on stage to help boost a charity auction. Last night at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA, Weir played “Peggy-O” with a D’Angelico guitar signed by all the members of Dead & Company. The one-of-a-kind EX-SS guitar, which also features the Dead & Company logo on its pick guard, is being auctioned on the tour to benefit more than a half- dozen charities. Currently, the high bid sits at $11,500. The guitar will be “Truckin’, up to Buffalo, ”on display and open for bidding tonight on the concourse as the First Niagara Center, and then will continue across the country with stops in Columbus, OH, Greensboro, NC, Atlanta, GA and more. HeadCount, a non-profit organization that promotes civic engagement and voter registration through music, organized the auction and is bringing it to most cities on the Dead & Company tour. The person with the highest bid by the end of the tour – from any city – will become the guitar’s proud owner. Weir first played a D’Angelico guitar on stage during the Grateful Dead's Fare Thee Well shows last summer. That guitar sold at auction for $526,000, making it the 18th most expensive guitar ever sold and netting nearly $30,000 each for 17 different charities.

For Immediate Release: HEADCOUNT WILL BRING ‘PARTICIPATION ROW’ TO DEAD & COMPANY SHOWS AT MSG Signed D’Angelico Guitar and Remo Drum Head Will Be Auctioned for Charities NEW YORK, NY – A half-dozen charities will be making an appearance at the Dead & Company concerts at Madison Square Garden this weekend, part of the “Participation Row” social action area organized by the non-profit group HeadCount. To support the charities, instrument makers D’Angelico and Remo donated custom-made Dead & Co. items to be signed by the band and auctioned in select cities on the tour. Similar items generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in Participation Row auctions at the Lockn’ festival and the Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary concerts. A signed D’Angelico guitar sold for an eye-popping $526,000 at the final Grateful Dead concert in Chicago in July. The next installment of Participation Row will be staged in the Madison Square Garden concourse outside sections 108 to 118. Concert-goers will be invited to visit any of the organizations and take socially conscious actions such as registering to vote, joining the bone-marrow donation registry, or petitioning for tighter environmental regulations. For every action completed, the attendee’s name will be entered into a raffle to win a Dead & Company tour poster signed by the band. The organizations featured on Participation Row will include the Rex Foundation a charitable non- profit established by members of the Grateful Dead in 1983, the bone marrow donor screening organization Love Hope Strength, environmental groups Reverb and Mom’s Clean Air Force, the Multidisciplinary Associations for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), and HeadCount, which specializes in voter registration and civic engagement through music.

This Is a Great Band, and I Had a Great Time” Bob Weir, Grateful Dead Founding Member (Guitar/Vocalist)

“This is a great band, and I had a great time” Bob Weir, Grateful Dead founding member (guitar/vocalist) “Inspired and accomplished musical discourse at such a deep and serious level: I had no problem at all believing that this was what the Grateful Dead sounded like 40 years ago.” David Gans, Grateful Dead Hour “I've always been impressed by DSO, but the other night I thought they'd taken it to a new level. It was some of the best Grateful Dead music I've heard in the past 20 years, and that covers some ground. Somehow, Jeff Mattson manages to play Jerry's parts perfectly in the spirit, but without any sense of being imitative. And boy, does the band pick up on this energy. Big fun!” Dennis McNally, Grateful Dead publicist & biographer 1980 – 1995; Author “A Long Strange Trip: The History of the Grateful Dead” “As one who is classically trained, I actually always thought that DSO was very cool, treating Grateful Dead music as repertoire- much as I've tried to do in my various bands.” Phil Lesh, Grateful Dead founding member (bass/vocals) “Playing with Dark Star Orchestra is something that feels just exactly like it felt when I was playing with the Grateful Dead.” Donna Jean Godchaux, Grateful Dead vocalist, frequent DSO guest “There are moments where I can close my eyes and go back 30 years and have it be every bit as rewarding and satisfying. Dark Star is an amazingly legitimate representation of the Dead.” Dan Healy, Grateful Dead sound engineer 1966 -1994 “Thank you for a real good time.” Jon Fishman, Phish drummer after sitting in with DSO “The Dark Star Orchestra re-creates Grateful Dead shows with a flashback-inducing meticulousness.” The New Yorker “...recreates the Dead concert experience with uncanny verisimilitude.
  • The Other Ones the Strange Remain (Arista)

The Other Ones the Strange Remain (Arista)

The Other Ones The Strange Remain (Arista) The recipe for a successful jam-band reunion reads something like this: three parts Grateful Dead, two parts Bruce Hornsby and the Range, a splash of sax, garnish with a couple of guitarists, serve chilled. As the Other Ones' performance at last year's Furthur Festival proved, you can't keep a good band down. Three years after the death of Jerry Garcia, founding members of the Grateful Dead–Phil Lesh, Bob Weir and Mickey Hart–put the act back on the road. Bruce Hornsby, who joined the band temporarily in 1990, played keyboards and brought along longtime drummer John Molo from the Range (and, recently, Hart's Planet Drum). John Ellis of Weir's Ratdog added some brass. Steve Kimock (who played with former Dead members Keith and Donna Godchaux) and Mark Karan filled in on guitars. This project is hardly a Dead rehash; the two-CD set collects recordings made at the Furthur Festival, spotlighting the new, the old and the different. Weir struts his stuff on "Jack Straw," and on the unreleased "Corrina." Hornsby's "White-Wheeled Limousine" and "Rainbow's Cadillac" get the full-out Dead jam treatment. "Only the Strange Remain," an eerie trip, is originally from Mickey Hart's Mystery Box. The bluesy "Banyan Tree," penned by Weir, Hart and Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, debuted just last year. Lesh shines vocally on "Mountains of the Moon," where fans insist his voice sounds better than it has in decades. Jerry is obviously not on this album, and on tunes such as "Friend of the Devil," "St.

Each one who could recite or do anything did it, and it was appreciated by a deadhead audience, something unusual nowadays. Release Dates. I love this series! The "Brown Basterd" named by Capt Juan, killed em. The line added three new releases this year, and the capper in particular is a doozy. The iconic jam band and members of its extended artistic family have new music, streaming concerts and more help on the way in these final days between now and whatever has in store. It is difficult to believe that the police, even in the eighties, would have so little to do that they would time and effort into investigating idle gossip. It also occurs to me that the multiple murders made to look like accidents is somewhat reminiscent of Agatha Christie's Murder is Easy, although Patrick is even more subtle than the murderer in that book, because in one case it is implied that Patrick merely suggested that the victim return home at a certain time, knowing full well that the circumstances that would greet the victim would produce the desired result.
  • SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2007 the WARFIELD THEATRE SAN FRANCISCO Welcome from the Rex Foundation

FURTHERING A TRADITION OF GRASSROOTS GIVING SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2007 THE WARFIELD THEATRE SAN FRANCISCO Welcome from the Rex Foundation On December 1, 2001, at the Warfield Theatre, the Rex Foundation launched its renewal with The Healing Power of Music. That night the full house of kindred spirits celebrated the fun of being together, enjoying great music and helping the Rex Foundation continue to fund valued organizations that serve their communities. Thanks to the resounding support over these last 6 years from the entire musical community, individual contributors, corporate sponsors and foundations, the Rex Foundation has distributed $911,000 in grants to 171 programs, along with carrying out new initiatives that foster creativity while also spurring greater awareness about such issues as human rights. Since the first Grateful Dead Rex benefit concert in the spring of 1984, the Rex Foundation has provided $8.2 million in grants to over 1,000 grassroots non-profit programs across the United States and internationally. Tonight, the Rex Foundation once again celebrates at The Warfield, in a hall filled with friends from far and wide. Everyone involved in presenting this event – the musicians and their production team, ticket purchasers, venue staff, in-kind and silent auction contributors, volunteers, event coordination team – has contributed their resources, ingenuity, community spirit and kindness to create this special occasion and support the on-going success of the Rex Foundation. Thank you for being part of this celebration. Together, we are travelers on the Rex Community Caravan furthering what the Grateful Dead started for many years to come. The music never stops.

At Last ZADELL Finally Plays Yoshi's

11-24-2004 At Last ZADELL finally plays Yoshi's It had to happen. But though Dave and Zoë Ellis have been making music all their lives, neither was in any hurry to work on a group project. "If our dad was cracking the whip like [Joe] Jackson, we probably would have done this a lot sooner," Dave jokes, noting that he and his sister have "always been musical, and always musical together, just not necessarily publicly." Still, forming the group ZADELL (also the name of the family publishing company) was a no-brainer, because the chemistry was there from day one. The beta version of ZADELL first surfaced four years ago for a one-off show, and Dave and Zoë have recorded several demos together over the years, but the siblings' busy schedules made it impossible to further explore the idea until now. "Our life paths converged at this time," explains the saxophonist, famous for his solo work and as a member of Grateful Dead spin-off bands Ratdog and the Other Ones. After booking a date at Yoshi's a year ago, the Ellis’ put together a band that could handle both the extremely technical jazz Dave plays and the funky, soulful R&B associated with Zoë (best known for her work with the Mo'Fessionals, the Braids, and Slammin'). The sound is still being fine-tuned, but judging from a recent demo it sounds like it'll be smooth jazz of the KBLX variety, featuring Zoë's creamy vocals trading off with Dave's bluesy solos. Monday night at Yoshi's, says Dave, could be the birth of a new era.

I’d also like to thank my boyfriend Josh, for always truckin’ with me to every single concert and sharing a love for the Grateful Dead, and still loving me when this project stressed me out. When I had no wings to fly, you flew to me. A big thank you to Bob, Mickey, Bill, Jeff, John, and Oteil for keeping the Dead alive long enough for me to experience a part of the Grateful Dead I thought I would only get from recordings and videos.
