LEIT EREG AUGUST 19, 2014, 9:06 AM Redfin | Inset: Tony Gutierrez / AP Photo etired professional baseball player Kenny Rogers, who spent 12 seasons in a Texas Rangers uniform, has listed his mansion-estate in Westlake, Texas, for sale at $14.697 R million. The home, designed by Richard Drummond Davis and built in 2004, sits among hills and meadows on 24 acres with a country French chateau, a guest house, a pool, an outdoor entertainment pavilion and a custom barn with two stalls. Clad in hardwood and stone, the home features vaulted interiors, exposed beams, delicate molding, custom wood built-ins and stone fireplaces. The 12,316 square feet of living space includes an elevator, a gourmet kitchen, a formal dining room, a living room, a solarium, a wood- paneled library/study, five bedrooms, six full bathrooms and nine fireplaces. The master suite sports two full bathrooms, two fireplaces, a private sitting room and heated flooring. The guest house adds an additional bedroom, two bathrooms and a kitchen. Covered loggias open onto formal gardens and a central courtyard. A fire pit, two ponds, equine facilities and a pool and large expanses of lawn and meadows also reside on the grounds. Rogers, 49, played for six teams across a span of 20 seasons including the Rangers, New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers. A four-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove Award-winner, he retired in 2008 with a 219-156 career record. Last season, leftfielder Yoenis Cespedes won the award as a Tiger — but he played the final two months of the season with the Mets. This season, four Tigers are finalists for the AL Gold Glove, as announced by Rawlings on Thursday: second baseman Ian Kinsler, shortstop Jose Iglesias, catcher James McCann and pitcher Justin Verlander. All but Kinsler — who despite outstanding defense the past three seasons has yet to win baseball’s top defensive honor — are first-time finalists. In 2015, Kinsler lost out to Houston’s Jose Altuve. In 2014, he fell to Boston’s Dustin Pedroia. Kinsler is a finalist with Pedroia — who is seeking his fifth Gold Glove — and Seattle’s Robinson Cano. Kinsler and Pedroia finished tied for the AL lead in Defensive Runs Saved by a second baseman this season with 12 each. Kinsler had a .988 fielding percentage, tying a career high set in 2014. Iglesias, considered one of the best fielding shortstops in the AL, is competing with Cleveland’s Francisco Lindor and the Angels’ Andrelton Simmons.

INTRODUCTION The period of 1994 through 2002 has been called a myriad of things by commentators, fans, baseball personnel and players when referring to this time period in baseball history. Unfortunately, not many of the names used or applied are complimentary, at least by those who are not part of the Major League Baseball (MLB) hierarchy. Names such as "Baseball's Watergate" or "Selig's Watergate,"' the "Tainted Era,"2 the "Non-Drug Testing Era," the "*ERA" or simply the "Steroids Era"3 have been suggested. Conversely, MLB commissioner Bud Selig has called this period a "renaissance" for baseball and "baseball's Golden Age." 4 As can be seen by these few examples of opinions about the subject time period, a wide gap exists in the perceptions of those who have expressed opinions on the subject.
