Expedition to Mavecure Hills, Zamuro and Cualet Streams and El Tuparro Natural Park ECOGLOBAL EXPEDITIONS www.ecoglobalexpeditions.com Expedition to Mavecure Hills, Zamuro and Cualet Streams and El Tuparro Natural Park Highlights: Explore the impressive rock formations in the middle of the Amazon jungle. Check here a Video about Mavecure Hills (off2colombia): VIDEO MAVECURE HILLS The streams of Zamuro and Cualet. The Inirida river, along its meandering route forms many streams, one of them is the Mavecure, in front of it we will sleep. The next streams upstream are those of Zamuro and Cualet, much more impressive. We include a walk through the jungle between the two, when the river does not allow the passage of the boats due to its level. Meet “The Waterway Star of the South” – confluence of the Orinoco, Atabapo and Guaviare Rivers. Visit the Maipures rapids. Check here a Video about Tuparro (off2colombia): VIDEO TUPARRO NATIONAL PARK 1 www.ecoglobalexpeditions.com - [email protected] - Whatsapp: (+57)3108233974 - (+57)3217215554 - Registro Nacional de Turismo 20535 ECOGLOBAL EXPEDITIONS www.ecoglobalexpeditions.com Remote landscape, with virgin rivers like the Tuparro and the Tomo. Read a note about this destination: Note by Manuel Rueda Trip details: Duration of the trip: 8 days Trekking time: 3 hours daily through the hills, jungle, savannah and river beaches. Distance: 5-10 kms each day. Ecosystem: tropical rainforest and savannah. Climate: warm and humid with an average temperature of 26°C. Elevation: 100 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l). This expedition is ideal if you like: Venture into remote and rugged territories. Interact with different local cultures. Navigate rivers. Feel the silence of the jungle and the savanna. Deep contact with nature. Important note: At this time the El Tuparro National Natural Park is closed to the public. However, the route planned in our expedition, which is the one we have made in the last 10 years, is not affected because our camp is outside the park and because the main attraction of the park, which is the amazing Raudal de Maipures, is visited by the shore. from the Orinoco river when we go in summer and from the Guahibo hill when we go in winter. We will also have a wonderful panoramic view of the park from the top of Cerro Guahibo, also outside the park. An unforgettable journey into the heart of the Amazon jungle and the great Orinoco savannah. The scenario setting for “La Voragine” by José Eustasio Rivera and “Personal Narrative of a Journey to the Equinoctial Regions of the New Continent” by Alexandeer von Humboldt in the 19th Century. The Mavecure, Pajarito and Mono Hills, stand out as huge natural pyramids in the middle of the lush jungle on the bank of the majestic Inirida River, which is inhabited by playful fresh water dolphins. Further north, our boats will get to the “Waterway Star of the South”; the vast confluence of the Orinoco, Atabapo and Guaviare rivers on the border with Venezuela. In addition, we will go from the Orinoco to Mono Hill which is set on the great plain of Vichada, to finally find the spectacular rapid of Maipures – often called the eighth natural wonder of the world. • ROCK ART CHRONOLOGY in the ORINOCO BASIN of SOUTHWESTERN VENEZUELA a Dissertation Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate Schoo
ROCK ART CHRONOLOGY IN THE ORINOCO BASIN OF SOUTHWESTERN VENEZUELA A Dissertation presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School University of Missouri–Columbia In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy by JOHN WILLIAM GREER Dr. Robert A. Benfer, Dissertation Supervisor AUGUST 1995 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS It is impossible adequately to thank everyone who has contributed to the study, or to the training which made it possible, or to make obvious to the casual reader what those people contributed and why they are listed here. The following list is far from complete. As with any graduate study, numerous faculty members have contributed to whatever the present work has to offer. Members of my committee at the University of Missouri include Robert Benfer (advisor), Deborah Pearsall, Philip Arnold, Hector Neff, and Michael Robbins. Other Missouri faculty members who deserve special thanks for their influence include Lee Lyman, Michael O’Brien, Ralph Rowlett, Raymond Wood, and the late Carl Chapman. More distantly in time and space, E. Mott Davis, Thomas Campbell, and Dee Ann Story, all of the University of Texas–Austin, early on did what they could to instill in me a sense of how things should be, especially when written; even after so long they continue to be most influential. Unusual notes of thanks necessarily go to Bob Benfer and Jim Brady. Benfer pulled me back to school after a rough hiatus following my M.A., and he continues to be both a friend and advisor through many subsequent hard times. And Brady (best known for his studies of prehistoric cave use in MesoAmerica) probably is singularly at fault for my returning to complete my degree; without his forceful encouragement, Mavis and I probably would continue to be inundated in fieldwork and report deadlines.

Some small terranes that have been de- Jurassic fined recently, including Anacona, Ebéjico (Quebradagrande), and Pozo (Arquía), are placed within the context of the larger terranes. In addition, some new terranes, in- cluding Yalcón, Bocaná, Aburrá, Kogi, and Tairona, are defined and their characteristics are described. With these new geochronological data, we propose that the metamor- phic Cajamarca Complex be replaced by two new lithodemical units: the Antioquia Triassic Complex, which covers mostly rocks that formed during Permian and Triassic meta- morphism, and the Coello Complex, which comprises metamorphic rocks that formed during Jurassic metamorphism. Future lines of investigation are proposed to solve remaining problems, especially the boundaries of some of the newly defined terranes. Permian Keywords: continental terranes, accretions, displaced terranes, Colombia, Andes. Resumen La abundante cantidad de información geológica que se ha generado en los últimos años en Colombia, en particular geocronológica y cartográfica, implica la necesidad de actualizar el mosaico de terrenos geológicos que constituyen el terri- Carboniferous torio colombiano.
