Annual Report 2015 Public Affairs Made Public Dear Friend of TVW: TVW Programming For 20 years, TVW has opened state government to the people of Washington offering unedited, “gavel-to-gavel” coverage of government deliberations and Statistics public policy events of statewide significance. Since our signal activation on April 10, 1995, TVW has televised more than 30,000 hours of public policy Television proceedings, including coverage of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government, state agencies, state elections, and public policy events hosted by Washingtonians with non-governmental organizations. Access to TVW Channel 3,420,619 And it was against this rich, historical tapestry that I was privileged to join the TVW team in March of 2015. I came on board just in time to finish up the good work of Total Hours of TVW Programming my predecessor, Greg Lane, in securing funds to replace TVW’s aging technology. 1,313 Now, thanks to the Legislature and the strength of our professional engineering Legislative Coverage team, TVW is broadcasting in full high definition (HD) and looking forward to 896 hours (68%) securing our first HD channel likely sometime in 2016. State Agencies Boards and Commissions At the same time, 2015 brought with it significant upgrades to our website including 55 hours (4%) enhanced features to make our content more accessible on mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets. With these changes, we are truly making TVW Supreme Court programming available anytime, anywhere, on any device. 100 hours (8%) Under the leadership of our volunteer Board of Directors, we developed a new Campaigns and Elections strategic plan to guide our work through 2020. The plan focuses on continued and 17 hours (1%) expanded transparency, increased access to the business of state government for all, and new strategies for reaching youth and communities of color. Produced Public Affairs Programs 80 hours (6%) All of this really sets the stage for TVW’s future. While 2015 was an exciting year in many ways, I’m even more excited about our future! Daily, I am impressed, and Public Policy/Other encouraged, by our dedicated and professional staff. This team is changing the way 165 hours (13%) Washingtonians understand and interact with their government and, because of them, it’s exciting to be a part of this important work. Hosted by Austin Jenkins, Inside Olympia airs every Thursday at 7 and 10 p.m. A round-up of the public policy issues making news each week, The Impact, produced and hosted by Anita Kissee, airs Wednesdays at 7 and 10 p.m. During the Legislative Session, Legislative Review, produced and hosted by Christina Salerno, recaps daily legislative highlights every weeknight at 6:30 and 11 p.m. Join lively conversation with authors about their books and their ideas on TVW’s Well Read every Tuesday at 7 and 10 p.m. Washington Public Affairs Network (dba TVW) Modeled after C-SPAN, TVW is one of the oldest and most respected state public affairs networks in the country. Recognized with numerous awards for its produced programs, TVW has broadcast statewide proceedings of all three branches of Washington state government – legislative, executive and judicial – as well as public policy events of statewide significance since 1995. TVW is a 501 (c)(3) private non-profit corporation, not a state agency, governed by an independent board of directors.
