If she keeps playing like this, Uremovich might have to take out a post office box.

The Hilton Head High junior fired a 1-under-par 35 on the Devil’s Elbow South Course at Moss Creek on Tuesday, finishing nine shots ahead of the next-best score and leading the Seahawks to a 175 total and a victory over their county rivals from Bluffton and Beaufort high schools.

The Seahawks were 11 shots better in beating the same two teams a week ago at Dataw Island, but their margin of victory was bigger Tuesday. Hilton Head High finished 16 shots ahead of Bluffton a week after beating the Bobcats by 14 shots in both teams’ opener. The Bobcats struggled from top to bottom Tuesday, with Heather Wiquist leading the way with a 44 and Kendra Collins shooting 45. Coach Jim Corbin hopes to see his team work out some of its problems this week in practice.

“I’m still at a loss with this team, because they’re so much better than what they’re shooting,” Corbin said. “The physical game is not our problem. ... I think they just need to believe in themselves and stop putting so much pressure on them- selves.”

Uremovich took the pressure off her teammates by giving the Seahawks a big cushion in the No. 1 slot, even though she said she wasn’t at her best.“I actually really didn’t play that good,” Uremovich said. “I played decent, and I scrambled well.”

Uremovich fought her driver a bit but still managed to hit seven of nine greens in regulation, an impressive task considering Moss Creek’s tiny greens. After starting at No. 3, Uremovich rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt at the par-3 fifth hole. She gave one back at the par-4 ninth to drop to even par, but got it right back with a 20-foot birdie putt at the par-4 first.

Kylie Gratton shot 49 to lead the Eagles, who shaved 15 shots off their score from last week. All three teams are in action again Tuesday at Coosaw Creek Country Club in North Charleston. VIGNATI EXPECTED TO MAKE TITLE DEFENSE IN CAROLINAS SENIOR AMATEUR,

WEST END, NC - Reigning champion Joe Vignati of Bluffton, SC is among the 226 golfers who have entered the 46th Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship, a Carolinas Golf Association event scheduled to be played Sept. 11-13 at Dunes West Golf Club in Mount Pleasant, SC. Vignati won the rain-plagued tournament for golfers ages 55 and over last Novem- ber at Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington, NC by shooting 73-69—142. The final round of the scheduled 54-hole stroke play competition was canceled because of a turbulent low pressure system that produced extremely high winds and several tornadoes in the area. Also expected to be in this year’s field are 2006 runnerup Bill Palmer of Bluffton, SC, who wound up one stroke behind Vignati, and third-place finisher Bill Boles of Wilson, NC, who finished three strokes off the pace. The entry list also includes Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC, the 2006 Carolinas Senior Player of the Year. Golfers in the Champion- ship Division are scheduled to play 54 holes, with the field cut to the low 60s scorers and those tied for 60th after 36 holes. An additional 20 players will compete in a 36-hole Super Senior Division for those ages 70 and above. The par-72 Dunes West course, an Arthur Hills creation that opened in 1991, will play at 6,508 yards for the seniors. VIRGINIAS WINS THE 25th VIRGINIAS-CAROLINAS JUNIOR MATCHES

LYNCHBURG –– The eight-golfer Virginia team prevailed for a four-point victory (10-6) over their Carolinas counterparts to win the 25th Virginias-Carolinas Junior Matches, which concluded today at Boonsboro Country Club (6,748 yards, par 36- 36—72).

Virginias owned a one-point edge (4½-3½) following first-day foursome and four-ball matches. In a closely-contested final day of singles matches, Virginias notched a three-point victory (5½-2½). Virginias took home the Vinny Giles Trophy, snapped a two-match winless streak to Carolinas and claimed their first victory at Boonsboro since 2001, also their last win on Virginia soil.

In taking the title, Virginias won four singles matches and halved three others. Central Virginians Garrett Whitmore (Midlothian) and Bryce Chalkley (Chester) posted victories in the opening two matches. This year’s VSGA Junior Am runner-up, Whitmore bested Harold Varner III (Gastonia, N.C.), 2 and 1, while Chalkley made par at the last to defeat Mitchell Gray (Florence, S.C.), 1 up. Carolinas posted its only victory of the day in match three when North Carolina Junior Amateur champion Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C.) bested Jacob Singleton (Brookneal, Va.), 5 and 3. Singleton, though, went undefeated in first-day foursome and four-ball encounters.

Matches four and five were halved. Midlothian’s Nicholas Austin made birdie at No. 18 to earn one-half point in his match against Andy Knox (Cary, N.C.), while reigning VSGA Junior Match Play champion Michael Moyers (Stanardsville) halved Austin Reeves (Greenville, S.C.) The tandem combined for a total of 6 Don Reed of Santee Cooper birdies on the day and only one bogey, which came on the difficult par four 6th hole. Haas to be Inducted into S.C. Golf Hall of Fame

Columbia, S.C. –The South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame will be adding a new member to its family this winter. On Saturday, December 8, 2007 during the South Carolina Golf Association’s Golf Day, Jay Haas will be inducted to join other greats from South Carolina’s golf history books. Haas’ success on and off the golf course are no secret. Born in St. Louis, Haas was introduced to the game by his uncle, 1968 Masters Champion Bob Goalby, at a very early age and took to the game almost immediately. Haas won his first trophy at the National Pee Wee Championship in Orlando when he was only seven years old. Haas proceeded to win several Junior District Titles and three St. Louis District Amateur Championships. That was only the beginning.

Haas earned a position with the Wake Forest University Golf Team in 1973 where he became an ACC Individual Champion his freshman year. Haas also led his squad to four straight ACC Titles, and two straight NCAA Titles in 1974 and 1975, the latter of the two being Haas’ NCAA Individual Championship. Playing with the likes of Curtis Strange, Lanny Wadkins and Scott Hoch, Haas was a four-time letterman and All-American at Wake Forest, and earned All ACC stripes in 1975 and 1976 (the first two years the ACC recognized all-conference athletes in golf). Haas was also selected for the 1975 Walker Cup Team and was inducted into the WFU Hall of Fame in 1987.

Upon graduating from Wake Forest, Haas joined the professional ranks in 1976. He won four titles before joining the PGA Tour in 1980. Once on the Tour, he won nine different times over the course of the 1980’s and 1990’s, and earned a spot on three different Ryder Cup Teams (’83, ’95, ’04) and two President’s Cup Teams (’94, ’03). In 2005, Haas became eligible for the PGA’s Champions Tour and has been outstanding since participating. He has 10 victories including the 2006 Senior PGA Championship. He was Rookie of the Year in 2005 and Player of the Year in 2006 collecting the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, Arnold Palmer Award and Charles Schwab Cup.

Haas has also earned many other awards. In 1975, he was presented the Haskins Award for the Nation’s Top Collegiate Player after winning his NCAA Individual Championship. In 2004, Haas earned the Payne Stewart Award given to the player best representing professionalism, presentation, character, community work & charity. The year 2005 greeted Haas with the Murray Award for cooperation with media and was presented to him by the media. Finally, in 2006 the USGA rewarded Haas with the Bob Jones Award for Distinguished Sportsmanship.

Many of Haas’ awards are for his charitable contributions to his surrounding communities. Haas is a contributor to the American Cancer Society. He has also served Greenville Area Charities through the Thornblade Classic, SC Junior Golf by contributing to Junior Golf Lands & First Tee Facilities and he also sponsors the Jay Haas Award for Outstanding Male Junior Golfer in SC. Haas is supported by his wife Janice, two sons, Jay, Jr. and Bill and daughters Haley, Fran and Georgia.
