Those who wish to obtain Application form by post should enclose a crossed Demand Draft for a sum of Rs.150/- drawn in favour of the Principal of the respective Polytechnic Colleges along with a self- addressed envelope of size 30 cm X 12.5 cm affixed with Rs.15/- Postal Stamp.The last date of receipt of filled in Applications is 17.05.2019. Dharmapuri District was bifurcated from the erstwhile Salem District and Dharmapuri District came into existence from 2nd October, 1965, consisting of Hosur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Harur Taluks. Subsequently, Dharmapuri District was again bifurcated into two districts viz., Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri on 9-2-2004 due to administrative reasons, more number of villages and vast area. LOCATION AND AREA After the bifurcation of Krishnagiri District from Dharmapuri District, the present Dharmapuri District is located approximately between 11o 47” and 12o33” of the North Latitude and between 77o 02” and 78o. 40’30” of east longitude. The total geographical area of the district is 4497 Sq.kms.

ARTICLE ID: 045 Abstract Turmeric is scientifically called Curcuma longa and belongs to the family Zingiberaceae. The word „turmeric‟ is derived from the Latin word “terra merita” which means 'meritorious earth' refers to the color of turmeric. Tamil Nadu ranks second in both production and area under turmeric cultivation among all the states in India. The principal turmeric producing districts in Tamil Nadu are Erode, Dharmapuri, Villupuram, Salem and Namakkal. The present investigation was done in Pappireddipatti taluk of Dharmapuri district. It ranks second in area and production in the state after Erode district. The major turmeric cultivating areas in Dharmapuri are Pappireddipatti, Harur, Nallampalli, Karimangalam, Dharmapuri, Palacode and Pennagaram. Major turmeric producing villages are Venkatasamuthiram, Menasi, Molayanur, A.Pallipatti, Bommidi and Devarajapalayam. So, these six villages were selected for this investigation. Sample sizes of 120 turmeric growers were considered sufficient for the study. The majority of the turmeric farmers in this locale had a medium level of innovativeness in their farming.
