Introduction Pune City is the second largest metropolitan city in the State, is fast changing its character from an educational-administrative centre to an important Industrial (I.T.) City. The area under the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation (old limit) is 147.53 sq.km. Vision Statement “An economically vibrant and sustainable city with diverse opportunities and rich culture; where all citizens enjoy a safe and liveable environment with good connectivity” 1.2. Need for revision of Development Plan Pune city, the second largest metropolitan city in the state, is fast changing its character from Pensioner’s city to Educational – Administrative Center and now to an important Industrial hub with reference to the IT Center. The character of the existing use of the land within the limit is of complex nature. The city is not developed in conventional manner, but it consists of such users which are of different nature than the normal corporation area. In 1987 DP, this multiple character of the city as metro city has been studied since 1965, when the city had started experiencing the influence of the Industrial development occurred around the city i.e in the neighbouring Pimpri- Chinchwad area, due to development of large Industrial Townships by M.I.D.C. and IT Industries in Hinjewadi .
