  • Enya the Discography
“…vaulting cathedrals of sound, framed by luminous piano, shimmering synthesizer orchestrations, and, above all, the seemingly infinite layers of vocal harmonies...” Enya The Discography With her blend of folk melodies, synthesized backdrops, and classical motifs, Enya created a distinctive style that more closely resembled new age than the folk and Celtic music that provided her initial influences. Enya, birth name Eithne Ní Bhraonáin, was born in Gweedore, County Donegal, in Ireland in 1961 to a musical family, the fourth youngest of nine children. Several of her siblings formed the band An Clann As Dobhair in 1968, renamed as Clannad in the 1970s: Eithne joined the group in 1980, playing keyboards and providing backing vocals on a couple of their albums. In 1982, shortly before Clannad became famous for "Theme From Harry’s Game", producer and manager Nicky Ryan left the group and Eithne joined him to start her own solo career. As a musical group, Enya is collaboration between three people: Enya herself, who composes and performs the music; Nicky Ryan, who produces the albums, and Roma Ryan, who writes the lyrics in various languages. Enya is an approximate transcription of how Eithne is pronounced in her native Irish. Eithne Ní Bhraonaín, all vocals and instruments Music composed and performed by Enya Music arranged, produced and mixed by Nicky Ryan and Enya Lyrics and lyric adaptment by Roma Ryan. Once the effects of the new wave were fully absorbed, it became apparent that the world of singer-songwriters would never be the same again. A conceptual mood had taken over the scene, and that mood's predecessors were precisely the Bob Dylans, the Neil Youngs, the Leonard Cohens, the Tim Buckleys, the Joni Mitchells, who had not been the most popular stars of the 1970s. Instead, they became the reference point for a new generation of "auteurs". Women, in particular, regained the status of philosophical beings (and not only disco-divas or cute front singers) that they had enjoyed with the works of Carole King and Joni Mitchell. Suzy Gottlieb, better known as Phranc (1), was the (Los Angeles-based) songwriter who started the whole acoustic folk revival with her aptly-titled Folksinger (? 1984/? 1985 - nov 1985), whose protest themes and openly homosexual confessions earned her the nickname of "all-american jewish-lesbian folksinger". She embodied the historic meaning of that movement because she was a punkette (notably in Nervous Gender) before she became a folksinger, and because she continued to identify, more than anyone else, with her post- feminist and AIDS-stricken generation in elegies such as Take Off Your Swastika (1989) and Outta Here (1991).

Dark Sky Island is the eighth studio album by Irish singer, songwriter, and musician Enya, released on 20 November 2015 by Warner Music. After the release of her previous album, And Winter Came. (2008), Enya was unsure of her next career move so she decided to take break from music which lasted four years. In the spring of 2012 she started to write and record new material for a new album with her longtime collaborators, producer and arranger Nicky Ryan and his wife, lyricist Roma Ryan. Enya gained inspiration for the title track and the album from the 2011 designation of Sark in the Channel Islands as a dark-sky preserve and a collection of Roma Ryan's poems on islands. Enya's music is primarily about distance: between minutes, between people, between stars. Her songs stretch accordingly, synthesizers advancing and receding within them like shadows. Sometimes her music seems to move with the velocity of a glacier. Artist: Enya Album: Dark Sky Island (Deluxe) Genre: Pop Original Release Date: 2015. 1. “The Humming” 2. “So I Could Find My Way” 3. “Even in the Shadows” 4. “The Forge of the Angels” 5. “Echoes in Rain” 6. “I Could Never Say Goodbye” 7. “Dark Sky Island” 8. “Sancta Maria” 9. “Astra et Luna” 10. “The Loxian Gates” 11. “Diamonds on the Water” Deluxe: 12. “Solace” 13. “Pale Grass Blue” 14.

Read by Margaret Beardall The Cliffs of Doneen ................................................................. Traditional Irish Folk Song You may travel far, far from your own native home. Far away o'er the mountains, far away o'er the foam. But of all the fine places that I've ever been, Sure there's none to compare with the Cliffs of Doneen. It's a nice place to be on a fine summer's day, Watching all the wildflowers that ne'er do decay. Oh the hare and the pheasants are plain to be seen Making homes for their young 'round the Cliffs of Doneen. Take a view o'er the mountains, fine sights you'll see there You'll see the high rocky mountains o'er the west coast of Clare. Oh the town af Kilkee and Kilrush can be seen From the high rocky slopes 'round the cliffs of Doneen. Letter 2-Planxty Irwin ........................................................................... Cover art designed by Richard White January 16, 17, 2010 at Lied Education Center for Performing Arts Creighton University Tickets available on line Fall 2009 at www .rcmc.org From the Music Director RCMC is 25 years old! Were we to go back in time and talk to the original eight brave souls who sang the first concert in 1984, I wonder if they would be surprised that the chorus they started would have such a long life, that it would grow and develop in such a way that numerous lives would be touched. Did they imagine that the chorus would become a support system for those who would lose loved ones to AIDS? Did they know it would become a vehicle for GLBT’s to come out? That it would draw in straight allies? That it could help to heal broken families? RCMC has been all of that, and much more, through good times and tough times, through the loving efforts of countless individuals who have given those who would follow a safe place to be and express who they are. All of this is worth celebrating! We are truly grateful. One way to celebrate an anniversary is to look back, to remind ourselves of where we’ve come from and where we are going. So, we invite you in this concert to relive the music, the pictures, the stories, all that has inspired us to be who we are, and to join us as we dedicate ourselves to new visions and dreams for the next 25 years. Would the original founders be surprised by what the group has become? Some of them are here this weekend to celebrate with us, and my hope is that we will make them proud! – Mark Kurtz Pride Real Estate Group was created with Tim 612-3833 Carole 871-9817 your appreciation for quality, care and atten- Brian 250-5256 tion to detail in mind.
