SAMPROKSHANA Utsava - Sri Kanaka Thursday August 14, 2008 thru Sunday August 17, 2008

The Samprokshana (Sanctification) of the Kanaka Durga Utsava Murti will be performed from August 14 to August 17, 2008. Please see the program details in the back page.

This is followed by forty one days of Mandala Pooja from August 18th to September 27th 2008.

The Moola Murti is being worshipped in the shrine located behind the Assembly Hall. This Shrine was the Interim Temple before the Shiva Vishnu Temple was consecrated on July 13, 1986.

The Samprokshana is for the Utsava Murti.

According to the mythology, all the great sages including Sanaka, Sanandana and the trinity of , Vishnu and Maheswara have performed (penance) for ages to obtain the grace of the almighty goddess, the ever powerful (sarva shakthi swaroopini) Durga Devi. It is said that only when one has accumulated poorvajanma sukrutam (good deeds from previous lives), one gets to worship Her.

At the very beginning (when nothing existed), Goddess Durga was present in the form of energy. Thus, She became the basis for creation (srishti), protection (sthithi) and destruction (laya) of this vast universe. So powerful is She, that Lord Brahma obtained a miniscule part (anu maatram) of the dust from Her lotus feet and got the power to perform all the creation. The Protector Vishnu is blessed by the same dust and got the energy to perform His tasks. Even Lord Siva, the destroyer of evils applied this dust (as Bhasma) all over His body and is performing the destruction.

DURGA means eliminator of durgathi. Durgathi comprises of poverty, fear of enemies, and evil thoughts. By worshipping the mother you can obtain prosperity and well being for generations to come. One can serve Her by performing dhyanam, japam, homam, abhishekam, archana, and samprokshana. One attains the basic quality to worship the Mother by performing a number of good deeds () in their previous lives (Janmas). Many great people worshipped Her over the ages from Krita Yuga to the present day in Yuga and attained salvation. They include Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwara, , Skanda, Kubera, Durvasa, Chandra, Nandeeshwara, Manu, , Lopa Mudra, , Kaalidaasa, , and Paramahamsa.

Samprokshana of Goddess Kanaka Durga Utsava Murti is scheduled at Shiva-Vishnu Temple from August 14 to August 17, 2008. Please take Deeksha and participate in the Samprokshana program and receive Her divine .
