    (b) (5), (b) (6) From: POLITICO Pro Cybersecurity Whiteboard [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, March 29, 2017 12:54 PM To: (b) (6) Subject: DHS creating election security coordinating group By Eric Geller 03/29/2017 12:43 PM EDT The Department of Homeland Security is beginning to set up a coordinating body for election epic.org EPIC-17-03-31-DHS-FOIA-20180515-Production-1 000001 cybersecurity consultations with state officials, a DHS official said today. “We are doing that work now,” Neil Jenkins, the director of DHS’s enterprise performance management office, said at a meeting of the technical standards agency NIST’s cyber advisory group. “That work is in the planning phases, and we’re beginning outreach to” election administrators and voting system vendors. At the end of the Obama administration, following Russia’s alleged cyberattack campaign and intrusions at two state election offices, DHS designated election systems as "critical infrastructure," on par with hospitals and the power grid. In making its designation, DHS created a new election subsector under the existing government facilities sector, one of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors. Sectors and subsectors are managed through coordinating councils, which include representatives from affected critical infrastructure operators, technical experts and consulting federal agencies. DHS and state officials will meet several times in the next few weeks to begin planning an election security coordinating council, Jenkins said at the NIST meeting. “We’re starting to engage with them more robustly.” The department will spend the next few months showing state election officials how coordinating councils work in the private sector, Jenkins said.

  • Sarah Kendzior: That Jared and Ivanka's Activity in Office
Gaslit Nation Transcript 22 April 2020 “Blood Money Brigade” Sarah Kendzior: That Jared and Ivanka's activity in office has abated enemies of America, like Russia, or states rife with human rights violations, like Saudi Arabia, has proven irrelevant to media personalities seeking to normalize them. After all, many of these media personalities are themselves the sons and daughters of the rich and powerful. The new American economy runs on purchased merit, and now we bear the consequences on a national security level. Adult children of authoritarian leaders are useful in multiple ways. First, they tend to be trustworthy confidantes in regimes rife with paranoia, as corrupt authoritarian states are. Sarah Kendzior: Second, they're excellent vessels for laundering money. Creating enough distance, the assets stolen from the state are harder to track. Third, they tend to have a warmer public profile which offsets the brutality of the dictator by distracting the population with pictures of their happy families or glamorous lifestyle. Fourth, a dynastic kleptocracy is the most reliable way to keep assets stolen from the state in the family. It therefore falls upon the authoritarian ruler to legitimize his offspring as successors should he be forced to leave office. Sarah Kendzior: For 40 years, Trump hobnobbed with elites from media, business, politics, and entertainment, and then with their offspring, as those professions became dominated by nepotism. In 2016, when Trump's "grab them by the pussy" Access Hollywood outtakes were released, America was introduced to what I have called the Billy Bush Principle: For every asshole, there is an equal and opposite asshole.

Russia: Foreign Policy and U.S. Relations Updated April 15, 2021 Congressional Research Service https://crsreports.congress.gov R46761 SUMMARY R46761 Russia: Foreign Policy and U.S. Relations April 15, 2021 Since Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rise to leadership more than 20 years ago, tensions have increased steadily between Russia and the United States. Some observers attribute Russian Andrew S. Bowen foreign policy actions to the personality and individual interests of Putin and certain hawkish Analyst in Russian and advisers. Some contend Russian authorities are focused mainly on reclaiming Russia’s status as a European Affairs great power. Others argue Russian foreign policy is centered on protecting the country’s status as the dominant power in the post-Soviet region and defending against foreign interference in Russia’s domestic affairs. Whatever the motivations, most observers agree Russia’s natural Cory Welt resources and military modernization program, launched in 2008, provide Russia’s leadership the Specialist in Russian and European Affairs means to conduct a flexible and often aggressive foreign policy, as well as to project force in neighboring countries and further afield (such as in the Middle East). Russia’s foreign policy priorities traditionally have focused on the post-Soviet region and the West, including relations and tensions with NATO, the United States, and Europe. However, Russia under Putin (like the Soviet Union before it) also pursues a global foreign policy. As relations with its neighbors and Western countries have become more adversarial, Russia—seeking to balance against U.S. and European power and interests—has cultivated deeper relations with China and other countries.

In the report, all 17 intelligence agencies unani- mously assessed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had personally “ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the U.S. presidential election” with the specific aim of electing Donald Trump. The two campaigns discussed tactics and policy, including the release of “dirt” on their mutual opponent, Hillary Clinton, and rolling back American sanc- tions against Russia. And they executed their strategies timed to maximally benefit Trump’s chances of victory.
