The month of November seems to have flown by sooooo quickly and now we are in December and Advent it is the run up to the very special holiday of Christmas. I remember a quote from the Archbishop of York last year and wanted to share it - He said “Advent is a season when we are being encouraged to do the things we normally wouldn’t do, but do them with purpose, with determination, and with more joy.” - I hope to do this where I can, and always take inspiration from my children. He also said - “it is a time to read, to reflect, to pray, and to know that the One who came at the first Advent is the one who is for ever inviting us: “Come follow me”. I hope you have a wonderful time, see you in 2020!!! Tracy (Editor) BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE In loving memory of HAROLD ARMITAGE, whose anniversary fell on 28th November. Our dear Brother-in-Law, Uncle and Great Uncle. From all the family. 4 AN IMAGE TO COLOUR: 5 6 LEST WE FORGET November this year marked 100 years of Remembrance services in the UK. Tameside really did remember them with services in Ashton, Cockbrook, Hurst, Park Bridge, Waterloo, Audenshaw, Denton Central, Denton West, Haughton Green, Droylsden, Dukinfield, Park Road, Hyde Central, Newton, Werneth Low, Longdendale, Broadbottom, Hollingworth, Mottram, Mossley and Stalybridge. With my family I attended the service at Waterloo alongside the Civic Mayor of Tameside and members of Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. The procession from Canon Burrows School to the Cenotaph was lead by the Band of Christ Church Lads and Christ Church Girls Brigade and the Hymns were accompanied by West Hill School Band. Our own Reverend David Jacks lead the well attended service and wreaths were lay down at the war memorial from many different organisations. It was an honour to be there. Tracy (editor) 7 CHRISTMAS TIME Excitement rises in the air, As Christmas time is drawing near. Bringing smiles to every face, As decorations take their place. Lighting up the darkest night, A wonderland of colours bright. Our land is changing, day by day, As worries seem to melt away. What shall we do: where can we go? As everyone cAlls out “hello!” Friendly greetings fill the air, While shops fill up with Christmas Fayre. Twinkling stars fill frosty sky, The moon shines bright as she goes by, Birthday time is here again, For a baby Born in Bethlehem. Bringing hope and joy untold, His story now our world unfolds. Giving thanks, so old but new, God’s Gift of love, for me And you. Christos May Foreman 22-10-19 8 SUNDAY’S OF ADVENT 1st Sunday of Advent We remember the Mothers and Fathers of the faith in the Old Testament; people like Abraham and Sarah, Moses and Miriam, David and Solomon; people who first responded to God’s call. 2nd Sunday of Advent We remember the prophets; people like Elijah, Isaiah and Mi- cah. They listened to God’s call and pointed others to what God had to say. 3rd Sunday of Advent We remember Joh the Baptist who told everyone to prepare for Jesus. 4th Sunday of Advent We remember Mary, the mother of Jesus, who waited for his birth just like we are waiting now. CHRISTMAS DAY!! Celebrate the birth of Jesus. See how many people you can say Happy Christmas to today!! PRAY God of all joy, you gave your Son to us at the first Christmas. Help us to make room for him in our lives today and every day. Amen Source—Love Life Live Advent. 9 SCOTISH FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE AWARDS CEREMONY EAST SERVICE DELIVERY AREA FRIDAY 22nd NOVEMBER 2019 LINLITHGOW BURGH HALLS 10 NATHAN ANDERSON-MOORES received the Chief Officer’s Certificate of Commendation from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in recognition of the outstanding personal effort, bravery and commitment made when he was instrumental in ensuring prompt assistance was rendered to his injured Grandad, potentially saving his life! North Tameside District Cub Scouts and their leaders rallied round to save their annual camp after the Waddecar Camp site at Preston was flooded. Suddenly, after a year of planning, cub leaders in Droylsden and Ashton came together to save the day and provide a camp experience for the groups closer to home. Working against the clock and using their vast list of contacts, experience, determination and gusto, they came up with an alternative.
