CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM FOR STUDENTS WITH A DISABILITY Track & Field (NB: also used for Cross Country where applicable) Current Previous Definition Classification Classification Deaf (Track & Field Events) T/F 01 HI 55db loss on the average at 500, 1000 and 2000Hz in the better Equivalent to Au2 ear Visually Impaired T/F 11 B1 From no light perception at all in either eye, up to and including the ability to perceive light; inability to recognise objects or contours in any direction and at any distance. NZSIA Ski Level One Certification Outline The NZSIA qualifications are recognised internationally as some of the best in the world. The NZSIA Examining Team comprise the most talented Ski trainers in New Zealand and it is our job to make sure you as the candidates have the best possible shot at successfully completing this course. We aim to provide a fun, friendly educational environment that is non-threatening. If you have any problems with another candidate or your Examiner don’t hesitate to approach me. The following information is important, keep it handy during your course. What you need to bring everyday: ‣ Your skis and boots. These should be well maintained and tuned. Have these kept off the mountain for the four days in case of a change in ski area due to weather. ‣ Helmets are highly recommended for all NZSIA courses and for Snowplanet Level One all candidates must wear a helmet for all on snow sessions ‣ Warm waterproof clothing including beanie and gloves. You’ll be outside for all five days (if the mountain is open) for up to 6 hours per day. ‣ Sunglasses/goggles and sun cream. ‣ A packed lunch or lunch money. ‣ Money for lift tickets. Some participants may be eligible for discounted lift tickets during courses. World Para Nordic Skiing Homologation Guide Version 2017 Homologation of courses for World Para Nordic Skiing (WPNS) (Para Cross Country Skiing and Para Biathlon for skiers with impairments) 1 General In general, the philosophy for FIS homologation, and the requirements and recommendations for stadium and course design applies to World Para Nordic Skiing as well. IBU requirements for stadium, range and course design are also applicable, particularly on IBU venues. See FIS Homologation manual for: - Philosophy of Homologation - Course Design Criteria - Design of courses - Stadium - Waxing cabins, Ski test area, warm up course - Practicing homologation skills However, since certain classes and categories have clear physical limitations, the courses must in general be made easier, with special attention to fast downhill sections, sharp curves, and steep or long up hills. The following sections will describe areas within homologation work that specifically should be considered when designing courses for Paralympic Nordic Skiing athletes. 2 Definitions 2.1 HD (height difference) is the difference in height between the lowest and highest points of a competition course. 2.2 MC (Maximum climb) is the climb with the highest partial height difference, in other terms, the biggest uphill.
