List of the species in the genus Pelochrista Lederer, with some remarks (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae)

Abstract: Koçak,A.Ö. & M.Kemal, List of the species in the genus Pelochrista Lederer, with some remarks (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae). Cent. ent. Stud., Misc. Pap. 98: 1-6. In this article, species of the genus Pelochrista Lederer (Tortricidae) are listed with their synonyms and world distributions. One replacement name, Pelochrista muhabbet (nom. nov.) Koçak is proposed. Some geographical errors published in World Catalogue of Insects vol.5. are corrected. Key words: Pelochrista, Tortricidae, Lepidoptera, nomenclature.

Within the frame of the DLW 1, totally 84 species of the Holarctic genus Pelochrista Lederer are checked up, taking the recent Catalogue of the Tortricidae (Brown, 2005) into consideration. One new homonym name is recorded; consequently a replacement name is proposed. Several geographical errors recorded in the Catalogue (Brown, 2005) are mentioned and corrected. The species are listed below alphabetically with their synonyms in chronological order. The range of the species are indicated using the codes. 4 Brown (2005:478) attributed erroneously the type locality as “Smyrna” read as Izmir. 5 Epiblema chanana Kennel,1901 (Dt. ent. Z., Iris 13: 273) and Grapholitha chanana Staudinger,[1900] (Dt. ent. Z., Iris 12: 349 [described in Uighur Ili, Kumul]) are two distinct taxa, currently classified under the genus Pelochrista Led. (cf. Brown,2005). The former is treated as valid name, but the latter is considered as junior subjective synonym of Paedisca huebneriana Lienig & Zeller,1846. The former name, Epiblema chanana Kennel,1901 cannot be used as valid name under Homonymy Rules of the the ICZN, as it is junior secondary homonym of Grapholitha chanana Staudinger,[1900]. Therefore, the first author of this article proposes a replacement name, Pelochrista muhabbet (nom.nov.) (pro chanana Kennel,1901 nec Stgr.,[1900]). Etymology: This name is dedicated to Mrs. Dr. Muhabbet Kemal, a keen naturalist and scientist, born in Uighur İli Kuldja.

In this article, three ascalaphid species are recorded in Chiang Mai Province for the first time. Key words: Ascalaphidae, Planipennia, Thailand, fauna.

Ascalaphidae fauna of Thailand is very little known. According to Michael (2005), only three species, Agrionosoma pendleburyi Fraser, Suphalomitus harmandi v.d.Weele, and S. serratus Fraser were known from five different localities in Thailand, up to the year of 2005. Michael (2005) added and illustrated four species, new to Thailand fauna, collected in Pak-Chong region in Central Thailand. These are as follows; Acheron trux (Walker), Ascalaphus prothoracicus (Kimmins), Ascalohybris oberthuri (Navas), and Nousera gibba (Navas). The fifth species determined as Suphalomitus sp. from Suwan Farm Station (Michael,2005). No published information about the Chiang Mai Ascalaphidae fauna is found; consequently all records cited below are new to Chiang Mai fauna. This short report is based upon the ascalaphid specimens in the Insect Collection preserved in the Department of Biology, Chiang Mai University. Taking the diagnostic features of Ascalaphidae species, given by Michael (2005), into consideration, we determined the following three species in
