The assessment compared the available monitoring data to national air quality standards in order to identify any existing exceedences of the standards. Data was gathered from various national and local sources with regard to atmospheric emissions from: road traffic; rail; aircraft; shipping; industrial processes; intensive farming operations; domestic properties; biomass plants; and dusty processes. The screening methods outlined in the technical guidance were used to determine the likelihood that a particular source would result in an exceedence of national air quality standards.
