Theodore, the oldest son of the new immigrants, became the translator for his father. When he married Lena Moorman who was keeping house for her uncle Father John Waelterman, pastor of St. Mary's, he was 32 years old. They purchased the farm West of the family home. This farm was later known as the Henry Brand farm. They lived here eight years, but it was too small and Theodore was unable to purchase more adjoining property. He served in the 26th Infantry under General Patton. After landing in France he went through Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, Czechoslo­ vakia and into Austria when the war ended. After his discharge he returned to the farm. When he married Emelia he built the small house south of the family home. When his mother became very ill, his family moved into her home to care for her. Mary Bernadine Westhues Born September 20, 1924 at Glasgow Entered the Cenacle Convent Sept. 24, 1951 After graduation from High School, Mary went to Columbia, Mo. where she worked at Stephens College, Missouri Utilities and lastly for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. In 1948 she went to St. Louis, working at Falstaff and attending St. Louis University. It was in St. Louis that she made several retreats at the Cenacle Retreat House and made her decision to enter that community, going to the novitiate at Lake Ronkonkoma, L.I., New York. After her profession she has served in the various Cenacle Retreat Houses in St. Louis, Chicago, Carmichael, Ca., Metairie, La., Milwaukee, Houston and again in Chicago. Six months before her perpetual vows in 1959 were spent at the Cenacle~ Motherhouse in Rome.
