Portier, Ph.D. In its analysis of mystical body of Christ theology in the twentieth century, this dissertation identifies three major streams of mystical body theology operative in the early part of the century: the Roman, the German-Romantic, and the French-Social- Liturgical. Delineating these three streams of mystical body theology sheds light on the diversity of scholarly positions concerning the heritage of mystical body theology, on its mid twentieth-century recession, as well as on Pope Pius XII’s 1943 encyclical, Mystici Corporis Christi, which enshrined “mystical body of Christ” in Catholic magisterial teaching. Further, it links the work of Virgil Michel and Louis-Marie Chauvet, two scholars remote from each other on several fronts, in the long, winding French stream.

  • In the Father's House
«As we have been united In the Father’s House in the profession of the faith, so let us keep ourselves united in suffrage and intercession». (Fr. Alberione) At about 6 PM (local time) on 12 November 2020, our brother priest died in the infirmary of Alba FATHER ALDO GUIDO PRIMO GOLLO 88 years, 75 of Pauline life, 69 of profession and 61of priesthood Father Aldo died of consumption after a very long illness, which for years had kept him paralyzed in bed without the ability to speak due to a severe cerebral ischemia that had struck him a few years ago. In any case, he never lacked lucidity and he answered with a nod to the questions of the doctors and the brothers who went to visit him in his room. He was born in Melazzo (Alessandria, Italy) on 28 August 1932. He entered the Congregation in Alba on 20 August 1945. The war in Italy was over a few weeks ago (Surrender of Caserta, 2 May 1945) and just a few days before his entry, two atomic bombs had wiped out Japan’s last resistance, forcing it to surrender. In that dramatic climate he decided, at the age of only 13, that he wanted to serve the cause of the Lord, a purpose in which he will keep faith for all the long years of his existence. He was immediately destined for the apostolate in the printing press, like all his peers, with whom he lived his initial formation, always encouraged by the Masters who immediately grasp his good nature and great industriousness, together with a poor health.

This duty corresponds to our fundamental rights as citizens and as persons to receive and give respect to each other in view of our possession of such rights.” Such duty, outlined by contemporary philosopher Alan S. Rosenbaum, was no better exemplified than in the case of Nazi war criminals in the aftermath of World War II. Even before the floundering Axis powers of Germany and Japan declared their respective official surrenders in 1945, the leaders of the Allies prepared possible courses of action for the surviving criminals in the inevitable collapse of the Nazi regime. Since the beginning of the war in 1939, the Nazi regime in Germany implemented a policy of waging a war so barbaric in its execution that the total numbers of casualties rivaled whole populations of countries.

  • Benin Prepares to Welcome the Pope Vatican City, 15 Nov
BENIN PREPARES TO WELCOME THE POPE VATICAN CITY, 15 NOV 2011 (VIS) - A press conference was held yesterday in the Holy See Press Office to present the visit of Benedict XVI to Benin, which is due to begin on Friday 18 November and to come to an end on Sunday 20 November, Solemnity of Christ the King. Holy See Press Office Director Fr. Federico Lombardi S.J. outlined the most important reasons for the Pope's return to Africa following his 2009 trip to Angola and Cameroon, first among them the signing of the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation of the Second Special Assembly for Africa of the Synod of Bishops. The signing ceremony is due to take place in the presence of thirty-five presidents of national episcopal conferences, and the seven heads of the continent's regional conferences. Secondly Benin , a small African county of scarcely nine million inhabitants, has always been a place of great spiritual importance for the Church. It was, in fact, from Benin that, 150 years ago, the great work of evangelisation spread into neighbouring countries, from Togo to Ghana and Niger . Thus, Fr. Lombardi explained, the Pope's visit has raised great expectations. "It will certainly arouse an atmosphere of hope for the African Church , and be an encouragement to the continent of Africa as a whole. Naturally, it will emphasise existing problems, but from a positive perspective, underlining commitment to reconciliation, justice and peace, and the announcement of the Gospel as part of man's integral development. In other words, the trip seeks to be extremely constructive".

THE HOLOCAUST AND THE SEARCH FOR FORGIVENESS An Invitation to the Society of jesus? Pope John Paul II has led the Church into a new era in its relationship with the Jewish Community. Progress rests on painstaking efforts to uncover the truth, identify failures where they exist, and humbly seek forgiveness. Recent scholarship presents a complex picture in Europe both before and immediately after the Second World War, both in the local churches and at the Vatican. Such can dor prompts a question: Should the Society of Jesus, serving its own role in the universal Church, review its own history during this dark period, and where neces sary, join in the Churclis search for forgiveness? ear the beginning of the new millennium, Pope John N Paul II made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and prayed at Judaism's most holy site, the Western Wall of Herod's Tem ple.
