MICHIGAN STATE FOOTBALL • 2004 MEDIA GUIDE • MSUSPARTANS.COM 08

Will Tieman, Mike Kamin, Bill Burke and George Blaha. RADIO NETWORK All Michigan State football games will be broadcast on the Spartan Radio Network, as the MSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics enters its final year of a three-year deal with the addition of two option years. A regionally recognized sports syndicator based in Holt, Mich., Spartan Sports Network will produce and distribute Michigan State radio broadcasts. The games can be heard throughout Michigan on the 35-affil- iate network, with WJIM AM and FM Radio in Lansing serving as the flagship station. George Blaha enters his 27th season as the play-by-play announcer for Michigan State football. Blaha, who resides in Troy, Mich., is in his 29th year as the voice of the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, calling games on both television and radio. The National Association of Sportswriters and Sports Broadcasters honored him as the 1998 and 2002 Michigan Sports Broadcaster of the Year. Born in Detroit, Blaha graduated from Notre Dame in 1966 with a degree in economics. While growing up in Marshalltown, Iowa, Blaha and his father attended Michigan State’s first-ever Big Ten game, played at Iowa in 1953. He lists All-America halfback Sherman Lewis and former QB Charlie Baggett as his all-time favorite Spartan players. Former Spartan quarterback Bill Burke is in his third season as a member of the broadcast team, serving as the color analyst. The four-year letterwinner (1996-1999) led MSU to the 2000 Citrus Bowl title with a 37-34 victory over Florida as a senior.
