KEEPING IN THE LOOP AUGUST 2019 CFU CONVENES FOOTBALL COMMITTEE The Executive Committee of the Caribbean Football Union has appointed a Football Committee. The committee is comprised of Chairman Luis Hernandez (Cuba); Vice-Chairman Maurice Victoire (Martinique); Anton Corneal (Trinidad and Tobago); Glen Etienne (Dominica); Jocelyn Germe (Martinique); and Etienne Siliee (Curacao). The chairman noted that the committee will have the support of specialists capable of contributing their knowledge for the sake of the development and advancement of football within the CFU. The inaugural meeting of the committee is scheduled for September 27, 2019 in Havana, Cuba. CAYMAN ISLANDS U-17 GUYANA U-17 CAYMAN ISLANDS AND GUYANA MOVE ON FROM CONCACAF U-17 QUALIFIER Cayman Islands and Guyana advanced to the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship Round of 16 after finishing at the top of their groups in the just-concluded Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifiers. The Caymanians won Group B while Guyana dominated in Group D. Also advancing alongside the two CFU teams are Belize, Group C winners, and Honduras, best in Group A. The top three teams from the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship, which will run from March 21-April 5, 2019, will qualify to the 2020 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup slated for September 21 to October 4, 2020 in India. JAMAICA AND DOMINICAN REPUBLIC IN ACTION GIRLS’UNDER-14 CHALLENGE SERIES RECAP Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Haiti and St. Vincent and the Grenadines all took home commemorative plates after they bested their respective groups in the Girls Under-14 Challenge Series. A total of 17 teams contested the developmental tournament, which was played across four venues—Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico and St. Kitts. The matches were played in a round-robin format, with each team playing one match against the other teams in the group. In addition to their Group 3 victory, Haiti had the most conversions, with 55 goals, 21 of which were scored by the prolific Walandjina Cyriaque. St. Kitts and Nevis’ Jahzara Claxton was second with 11 goals. BOYS’ UNDER-14 CHALLENGE SERIES POSTPONED Due to undersubscription by the CFU Member Associations, the Boys’ Under-14 Challenge Series envisaged for September will be postponed and is now likely to take place next year. NOVEMBER 2 FOR EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESS OF THE CARIBBEAN FOOTBALL UNION The Caribbean Football Union will hold an Extraordinary Congress on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Miami Sheraton Airport Hotel. Amongst other agenda items, the Extraordinary Congress will focus on the adoption of the Revised Statues of the CFU and FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers Concacaf zone format.
