The Alien Covenant stays close to what ended up on screen, but this is not a simple summary of a movie. Think of this book as an extended cut of Covenant, with more 'internal dialogue' type of scenes more dialogue scenes between characters. Some characters really benefit from the extra content, especially Oram (the scene with the eggs now makes him seem much less stupid/gullible) David(you really get a sense of what his thought processes are like, yikes). Sometimes the novel is slightly different than the movie (Walter gets much more 'internal dialogue' stuff, the hypersleep reveal at the end is way, way more subtle than the theatrical ending), but there are no real drastic changes. Alan Dean Foster's writing is great as always, and I'm glad he was picked to do the novelization. Now if only he could do one for Prometheus. :)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. There was some good background given on characters and their relationships with each other. I remember reading the novelization for the original Alien by Foster. The writing is very well-done, but like the world of ALIEN, it feels a bit robotic at times. Maybe that's the point, but compared to other ALIEN I've read, I think it could have been spruced up a bit instead of being a kind of 'paint-by-numbers' affair. Still gives some good insight into areas the movie couldn't.
