Even if it was classified as pop-metal, Bon Jovi never really was much of a metal band, relying on big, catchy melodies and not guitar riffs to make their songs memorable. That's why, in 2000, they're able to make an album like Crush, which strays far enough into pop/rock to actually stand a chance of getting airplay (which it did, with the hit lead single "It's My Life"). The guitar crunch on the uptempo numbers keeps Bon Jovi from becoming a full-fledged pop/rock band, but in addition to the typical hard rockers, there are nods to heartland rock, Bryan Adams-style adult contemporary balladry ("Thank You for Loving Me"), the Beatles (the surprisingly effective "Say It Isn't So"), and even British glam à la T. Rex or David Bowie ("Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen From Mars"). Occasionally, it sounds like the band is attempting to cover as many bases as possible for multi-format appeal, but for the most part, the variety -- coupled with the consistently polished songcraft -- makes for a surprisingly listenable album. The production is a little more electronic-tinged, but not obtrusively high-tech, so the band doesn't come off as desperate to sound contemporary. Aside from a couple of missteps (the soppy, aforementioned "Thank You for Loving Me" and the mawkish posturing of "Save the World"), Crush is a solidly crafted mainstream rock record that's much better than most might expect. Even if Crush is more measured than Bon Jovi's early work, "Just Older" sums up the band's acceptance of their status nicely: "The skin I'm in is all right with me/It's not old, just older." © Steve Huey /TiVo. Don’t miss out on the TIMELESS Bon Jovi music below! Click to experience one of the best selling bands of ALL TIME! 14. This Left Feels Right (2003) “If you want to see Bon Jovi in a relaxed, more intimate venue connecting with the audience like never before while performing a new rendition of some of their biggest hits, this is the DVD to watch! Jon’s delivery in a crooner (à la Sinatra) style of some of his hugest hits like ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’, ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’, ‘Bad Medicine’, and ‘Keep the Faith’ is nothing short of fantastic. He performs ‘Last Man Standing’, which until the release of Bon Jovi’s new CD – Have A Nice Day – he had never performed live, with heart and soul.” 13. What About Now (2013) “Not a great album,as there aren’t much anymore and not a bad album. Pretty much in the middle more toward the latter. I’ve been a BJ fan since the beginning and have seen welcome changes and have grown with the band.If they sounded on every album like Slippery When Wet,we all know they would have been gone years ago.A Slippery When Wet 2 wouldn’t work either. They are in a class by themeselves,do what they want and if you don’t like it,well…To me the album is solid with the soft to moderate rockers and ballads, which BJ has been doing since the beginning.” 12. The Circle (2009) “Bon Jovi were promoting this album and played “We weren’t born to follow,” “When we were beautiful,” “Work for the Working Man,” “Superman Tonight,” and a slew of other hits from their previous albums. Plain and simple, Bon Jovi has transcended decades like very few other bands have. He said it himself, “This isn’t 1984 anymore, it’s 2010. And its unbelievable that we’re still packing joints like this!” And that’s a testament to their music. I had only downloaded “We Weren’t Born to Follow” when amazon offered it for free. But 2 days after the concert I came back and go the whole album. Though it’s not Bon Jovi’s greatest, it is still a great Bon Jovi.” 11. Lost Highway (2007) “Lost Highway is a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t sure what to expect after hearing that it had a twist of country sound, but I LOVE it! I bought it at the beginning of the summer and listened to it on my MP3 while traveling all over Europe. It felt good to have a piece of home with me any time I wanted it. Right from the title song, Lost Highway, the rhythm and lyrics grab you. Jon Bon Jovi’s voice still has his characteristic strong edge, but crafted in a haunting way to make the songs stick in your mind.” 10. This House Is Not for Sale (2016) “Was dubious about this album with the lack of the Sambora influence. But, Jon and Co have created an excellent album. Not a scratch on the mid eighties albums, but then again, this isn’t the eighties. This record shows the boys can still rock and have developed a maturity that comes from thirty odd years in the business. The album has a quality that has been missing in albums of recent years, almost a sense of relaxed urgency. They seem to be having fun and that makes me enjoy it all the more. Its good to have you back.” 9. Bounce (2002) “Catchy lyrics, the entire album and all of Bon Jovi’s albums tell a story, with realism and conviction, without foregoing morals . That alone sets aside this incredible band’s music. Place aside Jon’s family genes related to his seemingly ever present great looks, and peel away at the layers of the MUSIC…his and his band’s music deserves MUCH more attention and respect! Not only are they veterans in an industry that is ever- changing, but they remain true to themselves, the music, and their fan base! Again, congratulations, Bon Jovi – you never fail to deliver a quality musical product, and yes, you most certainly, “Have done it your way, as Frankie said,” and how fortunate for us that you have. Thank you for the many years of dedicated musical work, our ears and hearts and minds thank you, also!” 8. Have A Nice Day (2005) “Being a Bon Jovi fan from the beginning, I have to say this latest CD is one of their best offerings to date. Not since “These Days” have I enjoyed an entire Bon Jovi CD. “Bounce” and “Crush” were okay; and it was nice to add the box set to my collection. HAND simply rocks! I love it and you will too, even if you are not a Jovi fan. The band has successfully navigated the roads of the 21st century with this outing, which contains some country-tinge, pure rock and great lyrics. Jon, Richie, Tito and David have done us proud. I can’t recommend a particular track….they are all just that good.” 7. 7800° Fahrenheit (1985) “I actually saw Bon Jovi on tour for this record. They were opening up for RATT. Jon hates this album and refuses to play any of these tunes live. Too bad. Only Lonely is a great tune as is Tokyo Road! There are some really good stand out rockers. Production wise it does sound very 80’s but it was made in the 80’s so that should come as no surprise. You already know every tune on Slippery When We. Check out this record for some great unsung Bon Jovi tunes!” 6. Crush (2000) “With CRUSH, Bon Jovi rediscover their party-rock roots and enter the new millennium in style. The opening track and first single, “It’s My Life”, is a rousing call for self-assertion, and many of the other songs are a balance between the group’s early sound (hard pop-rock) and the mature band they’ve become (an East Jersey version of the Outlaws). When you consider Jon Bon Jovi’s belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia on drug-smuggling charges was wrongfully convicted, as well as his advocacy of increased funding for law enforcement, it makes this album an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience. This is one of the first Bon Jovi albums to get.” 5. Bon Jovi (1984) “I think this is the album that took them from being another hair band to being taken more seriously as a great rock n roll band. It’s a very good album, sure there are some songs that aren’t super strong, but overall it’s a really great album. Definitely recommended if you’re a Bon Jovi fan!” 4. (These Days) (1995) “One of the fav. Bon Jovi Album’s. From the start till the end the songs are different than what the band had done in the previous albums. Keep the faith showed the start of the dark mood.

Lent February 22 – Pastor David Rawls THE TIME HAS COME Read Genesis 9:8-17 and Mark 1:9-15 Mark 1:15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news! It had been predicted from the beginning when God made a covenant with Noah and then Abram that God would be our God for all living creatures, Genesis 9:16. Throughout the Old Testament God is preparing the world for the coming of the messiah. When we read Mark 1:15, we are being reminded by Jesus that He is the one that God spoke about in the Old Testament, and the one the world has been waiting on to come. Jesus announces the good news that the “Kingdom of God has come near.” Now, for the most part, not many people understood what he was talking about, because they were expecting a military leader, not a savior. They wanted to be saved from the Roman occupation, but Jesus came to save them from their sins by calling them to repentance and to believe that He was their messiah. “The time has come!” When you consider that statement, it is probably a statement that all of us have used at one time or another. Whether we have used these exact words or similar words, the meaning is the same. There is always a beginning and an end to all things in life, and it is in between these two points where we live our lives. Jesus came for the very purpose of helping us to live in relationship with Him.
