Angus Mackay Diaries Volume XVIII (2002 - 2004) ANGUS MACKAY DIARY NO. 177 Friday February 1 2002 - May 10 2002. Friday February 1 2002 Saturday February 2 2002 To Chiswick this a.m. to shop for K and give him a choice. Got back at twelve, but no sign. Arrived at something after one, animated newsy talk, and an omelette with the blewits and chanterellesI got at the lovely greengrocers - £29.50 a kilo. About two four inch blews and four or five chant. about £3, not bad for such deliciousness. Now it’s Saturday night, and K’s gone, after two wonderful days.I have done nothing except stand up and sit down, and prepare four meals, and I’m exhausted. I fear K might have felt I was lazy or feeble. Well, he started out – ‘Can’t stop here talking, or the light will go’, on the buddleia, ‘which job do you want done first?’ He sawed it right down, and I do see that it’s partly destabilised some bricks. A great relief. I hope that silly fussy man won’t find something else to shout to me about. I was becoming quite reluctant to go into the garden. Horrible to cut anything down, but on balance welcomed it. Comically, the wind was the strongest I’ve heard since I’ve been here. Quite expected a letter of complaint from the next door just as we were cutting down the dangerous bush. They have a ‘patio’ (sic) garden and are clearly nervous of a jungle takeover, or indeed anything they can’t control.

LOYAL TO ISRAEL: TRANSNATIONAL SOLIDARITY WITH THE ISRAELI- PALESTINIAN CONFLICT A STUDY OF LOYALIST TRANSNATIONAL SOLIDARITY WITH ISRAEL 1 Loyal to Israel: Transnational solidarity with the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Thesis MA Modern Middle East Studies Leiden University Andrew Graham Robertson Page Student number: 1963023 15 January 2018 Supervisor: Dr. Noa Schonmann Words: 21,676 Cover Photo: Adrian McKinty, “Israeli flags in Belfast”, Adrian McKinty Blogspot, accessed January 14, 2018, http://adrianmckinty.blogspot.nl/2015/04/the-israeli-flags-in-belfast.html. Abstract: The Ulster Loyalist community of Northern Ireland have long regarded themselves as a people besieged by Irish Republican ideology. While lacking international support, the Loyalists have formed a geographically and culturally unusual bond with the State of Israel. Loyalist support for Israel increased visibly during the 2002 Intifada and Loyalists continue to make declarations of support for Israel. Yet, the governing Likud Party in recent years has commemorated Zionist insurgents, who committed acts of terror against the British administration in the 1940s. The Israeli government’s actions have led to criticism from the Her Majesty’s British government, which the Loyalist community aims to stand alongside, to maintain the Union and prevent the triumph of Irish Republicanism. Despite British public support for Israel declining during the past few decades, Ulster Loyalist support for the Jewish State is believed to be one of the strongest in Europe. 2 Contents Page

  • 2015 Christmas Concert Artist Announcement-Edited
For Immediate Release Broadway Star Laura Osnes and Beloved British Actor Martin Jarvis Join Mormon Tabernacle Choir for Annual Christmas Concert Back by popular demand after charming audiences at this summer’s Pioneer Day concert, Broadway star Laura Osnes will join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for their annual Christmas concerts on December 17, 18 and 19 in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. Taking the stage with Osnes will be acclaimed British screen and voice actor Martin Jarvis. Under the direction of Mack Wilberg, music director of the Choir, and Ryan Murphy, associate music director, these powerhouse talents will ring in the holiday spirit for audiences young and old. But that’s not all. Osnes and Jarvis will be joined by four Metropolitan Opera soloists — Erin Morley, soprano; Tamara Mumford, mezzo-soprano; Ben Bliss, tenor; and Tyler Simpson, bass — adding a classical dimension to the musical repertoire. This is going to be an unforgettable concert,” said Ron Jarrett, president of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. “Where else can you find such a depth of talent in all performing disciplines all on one stage? We are truly blessed to have this fabulous ensemble of artists spend Christmas with us.” Today’s carefully guarded announcement was eagerly anticipated by thousands in the community who have attended the Christmas concerts for over a decade. The free performances are arguably the hottest tickets in town during the Christmas season, and this year will be no exception. “We are overwhelmed and humbled by the response of our audiences each year,” said music director Mack Wilberg.
