Rebecca Merrick writes: When I left Sawston Village College, I had already developed a keen interest in the sciences, fuelled heavily by the school’s STEM club. This led to studying all three sciences and double maths at AS level, and continuing all but biology to A2. I have thoroughly enjoyed expanding my knowledge at Hills Road Sixth Form College. Outside of lessons, I have been involved in many activities. With the physics department, I visited CERN (the European Centre for Nuclear Research, in Switzerland). This was an opportunity that I was lucky to get, and it was a brilliant trip, as it also incorporated the opportunity to explore Geneva, including a visit to the United Nations offices. Keen to be a part of the musical activities of the sixth form, I was a member of the band for the lower sixth musical. This was a new experience for me, and I learned a lot from it, whilst thoroughly enjoying myself. After A levels, I will be going to university to study Natural Sciences. Primarily, this will involve studying physics, but will also incorporate physical chemistry. Away from Hills Road, I continue to volunteer in the community as a leader for Sawston Brownies. This is something I started during my time at Sawston Village College, and have found incredibly fulfilling.
