Frontier Research Essay AP English Language and Composition Thurs. 12/19 – Mini-lesson on citations Citations In-text EVERY piece of information you Works Cited include in your essay, paraphrased • Informative or directly quoted, MUST have • Complete information BOTH an in-text citation AND an • Unobtrusive entry on your works cited page! • “get the goods” Citations • The basic reason: avoid plagiarism (which is stealing) • The philosophical reason: publishing a paper is entering an existing conversation. Your work becomes part of a body of work on a topic. By providing the exact sources you used to gather your information, you are contributing to the further research on that topic. • For instance, when you go to the works cited page in an online article, and find one of those sources to use too. One day, it could be your work that students are using in the same way! You might have read a book of short stories on Google Books, or watched a television series on Netflix. You might have found the electronic version of a journal on JSTOR.
