This dissertation is dedicated to my parents, who first taught me to love the Catholic faith, and to my brother, whose deep faith in Jesus Christ, and his attention to the poor and marginalized I wish to emulate. I also wish to thank my Dominican brothers, who remind me each day about the power of community, faith and the love of God. Their sacrifices on my behalf are greatly appreciated. I also wish to thank those who helped specifically with the writing, research, formatting and guidance without which I could not have completed this project.
