The 50th Khon Kaen University and 36th Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences Anniversary Celebration Preconference course: Update on infection, immunity and vaccines Dates: 13-14 July 2014, Venue: Pullman Royal Orchid Hotel Khon Kaen, Thailand Course Content This course provides an overview of immunology with an emphasis on infectious diseases and covers vaccine development and health care policy. The lectures are divided into three major sections: Overview on current concepts in immunology, infection, immunity and vaccines; Major infectious diseases in Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS); Effector functions of the immune system, how it eliminates pathogens, challenges associated with protection. Vaccine safety and efficacy and application of basic immunology to the science of vaccine use and production. In addition, an overview of methods used to evaluate vaccine efficacy and public health care policy related to infectious diseases and vaccines are discussed. Target Audience This course is intended for individuals who are interested in mechanisms of resistance to infectious diseases, current concept of vaccination and update on vaccines to major infectious diseases including medical laboratory technologists and professionals with biology backgrounds. The course provides a good foundation of infection, immunology and vaccinology and the information necessary for a more in-depth study of immunology, if that is desired. Course Delivery The course is delivered in 14 lectures. In addition to the lectures, printed copies of the slides and detailed outlines for each lecture are provided and can be used for note taking and review. The course is offered as part of the International Medical Sciences Conference 2014: Translational Research from Molecular Laboratory to Health Care during 15-17 July 2014. 1 Confirmed speakers: 1.
