Trade press release: Wednesday 24 June, 2015 (left to right: Antonio Saura, producer; Graham Hines, Director, Sherry Wines UK; José Luis López-Linares, director; Beltrán Domecq, president, CRDO Jerez) Edinburgh Film Festival hosts first ever in-cinema Sherry tasting Edinburgh, Wednesday 24 June, 2015 - UK Premiere of Sherry: The Mystery of Palo Cortado Over 200 avid film enthusiasts at last night's Edinburgh International Film Festival screening of it's 'Doc of the Day', Sherry: The Mystery of Palo Cortado, enjoyed a post-screening glass of Palo Cortado Sherry. Hosted by Beltrán Domecq, president, Consejo Regulador de Jerez and Manzanilla Sanlúcar de Barrameda - Sherry's governing council - the audience was treated to an informal wine-tasting in the auditorium, straight after the film's UK premiere. The film, which had its international premiere in February this year at the Berlin Film Festival, is an homage to Sherry, its history, production and in particular to those people responsible for cultivating its history and future. As the title suggests, it is also an investigative journey to discover the hidden secrets of Sherry's most elusive style, Palo Cortado. Attending the premier was producer Antonio Saura, who, speaking on the night, said: "Since the film was first screened, at the Berlin Film Festival, it has been wonderful to see the reaction we have had from within the Sherry industry but also with our audiences around the world who are learning, enjoying and seeing for themselves how this special drink evolves. We are delighted to be able to bring the film to the UK." During an audience Q&A session after the film, director José Luis López-Linares, when asked what had brought him to the subject of Sherry, replied: "It was my love for wine, I had no idea of Sherry before we made this film. I have learnt everything about Sherry from making this film and for that I am grateful, and now drink it constantly!" Beltrán Domecq, who led the tasting and also took part in the Q&A session, concluded the evening by commenting: "Even after this wonderful and detailed exploration to discover the secrets behind Palo Cortado, I am afraid it still remains a mystery, and something that people will need to discover for themselves. With a glass of Sherry of course! And I think that is how we all like it." www.sherry.org @SherryWinesUK Trade press release: Wednesday 24 June, 2015 It is the first time the EIFF has organised a 'Doc of the Day' schedule, in honour of the festival's origins as a documentary film festival, and the screening of Sherry: The Mystery of Palo Cortado was also the first time a wine tasting had been organised for festival goers. For more information: www.sherry.org About Palo Cortado Palo Cortado is a Sherry wine of great complexity and rarity. It is very delicate, with the elegant nose of an Amontillado and the body and structure in the mouth of an Oloroso. Its colour is dark mahogany, on the nose it has dried fruit aromas and the palate is dry, elegant, complex and very persistent. About Sherry: The Mystery of Palo Cortado UK Premiere Sherry & The Mystery of Palo Cortado (El misterio del Palo Cortado) Documentary film directed by José Luis López-Linares What we taste in a glass of Sherry is not just the fruit and its ferment but also the peculiar flavour of a place to which the Gods have been invited and where they have found a home: Jerez, a place in the South of Spain where wine has been made for the last 3.000 years, is a place of stories, legendary tales and, most of all, mysteries. www.sherry.org @SherryWinesUK .
