44 Skansen Djurgårdsslätten 49–51 Djurgården Tram 7 44 www.skansen.se Founded in 1891, Skansen is the oldest open-air museum in the world with approximately 150 buildings brought from all over Sweden, dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Most of the buildings are open and there are guides dressed in traditional costumes doing old-fashioned crafts such as weaving, butter-making, spinning, etc. There are open-air concerts regularly on summer evenings and fabulous views of the city. There is also a zoo and lots of ABBA- related things to see. Towards the rear of Skansen you can find Kronbergs ateljé (Kronberg’s studio) featuring the artwork of painter Julius Kronberg (1850–1921.) He was a professor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. His works feature at Kungliga Slottet (see p. 52), the Hallwyl Palace and Dramaten. After his death, his studio was donated to Nordiska Museet but later moved to Skansen. Kronberg’s painting of Eros is on the cover of ABBA’s album The Visitors. Everything is still almost as it was in 1981 in the studio. Look out for the book that Agnetha is flicking through and the wooden bench that Benny sits on. Unfortunately you won’t be allowed to sit on it as it has been roped off for some time. The red armchair that Frida sits on can be found in the room away from the painting. Keep looking and you’ll find it. You’ll notice that there is a large water stain on it that Frida obscures by sitting in front of it for the album cover! The chair that Björn is leaning against is also in the room. -

This engaging and very challenging interval profile is a fun game that requires student input to help decide the next interval. It will take a little organization on your part. You’ll need to create index cards for each song and let your students pick the card from a bag as if they are trick-or-treating (make sure to borrow a Halloween bag from your kids)! The card they pick will be your next “trick” and the “treats” will be the recoveries in between. You’ll have to line up your songs carefully in your iPod so they are easy to scroll to. I’ve included a screenshot of my playlist in iTunes so you can see how I lined mine up. The total is 65 minutes. You can drop Bad Moon Rising and end a little earlier if you must end at an hour. Or, if you only have 45 minutes, choose 5 of your favorite “tricks” from the list, and shorten the profile. There are two warm-up songs and 7 drills that make up the tricks ranging from 3- 1/2 to 5-1/2 minutes. They are either consistent efforts for the full time (most at threshold) or they consist of shorter high-intensity surges with short recoveries. Most are climbs, one is a fast flat, and one contains 3 sprints in 5 minutes. The treats are the recovery songs of 2-1/2 to 3 minutes long. -

Noodles as he is affectionately know, was born to perform this music. He started singing CCR songs in his very first band when he was only 13 years old. CCR was an American rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their musical style encompassed the roots rock and swamp rock genres. Creedence Clearwater Revival's music is still a staple of American radio airplay the band has sold 26 million albums in the United States alone. The show is very faithful to a live CCR performance. THE MUSIC OF THE ’60S AND ITS LEGACY Loïs Nathan Université du Havre (GRIC EA 4314) Describing the music of the sixties and its legacy is a daunting task. The sheer volume of work produced, the number of actors: musicians, writers; and the subject matter treated in the lyrics, as well as in the music; what the music grew out of, and what it became, are enough to humble even the most avid of fans among us. We will nevertheless, attempt to propose a possible “framework” (although the term doesn’t perhaps fit the times), within which to describe what was happening, and what was being said. It will necessarily be a partial treatment. We will begin by looking at some of the musical influences on the 1960s. We can go back to Elvis Presley, born in 1935, and who grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi, and Memphis, Tennessee. Elvis’ musical influences are said to be “the pop and country music of the time, the gospel music he heard in church and at the all-night gospel sings he frequently attended, and the black R&B he absorbed on historic Beale Street as a Memphis teenager.”1 We all know the fame of Elvis. He was loved by many and feared or not so well loved by others. This may have to do with the fact that he combined the sound and style of “his diverse musical influences and (thereby) blurred and challenged the social and racial barriers of the time”2 …certainly not appreciated by everybody. He is referred to at times as a “good-natured misfit.”3 He was a trailblazer. -

It was absolutely gorgeous; but as full moons often do, it also brought out the wailing of the banshees, or at least of the cable TV pundits bemoaning the inverted yield curve and record-low 30-year Treasury yields and China’s slowing growth and Germany’s recession and Eurozone somnolence and whatever other factoids they could find to justify their gloom. But it was probably just the full moon. I see a bad moon a-rising I see trouble on the way I see earthquakes and lightning I see bad times today John Fogerty was probably writing about Vietnam when he penned those lines fifty years ago,1 but they also aptly describe the current investment climate. The U.S. economy is doing very well – as witness 2.1% GDP growth, 3.7% unemployment, 1.8% inflation, 3.1% wage growth, all excellent readings – but you’d never know it from the tone of most market watchers lately. The immediate catalyst for last week’s stock market nosedive was the brief inversion of 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields. Investors panicked because they have been warned incessantly that such an inversion (in which short-term yields are higher than long-term yields) inevitably leads to recession. Hej. 2013 var mitt nionde år som bloggare. Det blev färre inlägg än tidigare år. Dels så räckte tiden inte riktigt till, men framförallt så har ju Facebook och Twitter mer och mer tagit över. Det känns lite gammaldags att blogga numera. Jag fortsatte med LettersFromIsrael.com och jag lanserade nya webbsidan Israelism.se. Jag reste till Israel tre gånger under året. Jag var förbannad på de naiva svenskarna. Jag och sambon skaffade hund nummer två. Nu känns familjen komplett. Jag gick från vegetarian till vegan. Vi får se hur det går med bloggeriet i framtiden. Vi hade tänkt gå på flott fest igår men så blev det som så att jag bestämde mig för att arbeta i dag – och att en nyårsaftonsnatt ta sig hem från ena sidan stan till den andra är inte särskilt lajbans om man har en tid att passa… Så vi bestämde oss för att stanna hemma. Men huxflux frågade Villabögarna om vi inte ville komma förbi och eftersom det är promenadavstånd och allt så fick det bli så. Myspysigt var det. Sebbe var väldigt trött i dag. Han sov till 14:30! Själv klev jag upp 08. Inte illa. Jag hade tänkt avveckla denna blogg lagom till 2013. Men jag vet inte jag. Tror jag fortsätter rabbla på om min innehållsrika vardag. Ett inlägg om dagen. Kan det fungera? Kanske döper jag inläggen ett, två, tre och så vidare? Vi testar. Som ett tidsdokument. Eller en dokusåpa kanske. Kanske till och med bjuder på en bild på mig själv. -
