This is one of my favorite titles ...By HThis is a really good read. This is one of my favorite titles and I enjoyed this incarnation of the Titans. The Teen Titans are back! Red Robin, Wonder Girl, Beast Boy, Raven and Bunker—the Teen Titans are out to make a name for themselves in New York City. Stepping out from the long shadows of their adult superhero mentors, the team is enjoying newfound fame. From Internet stardom to underground concerts thrown in their honor, the Titans are the talk of the town. But not all the attention is positive. A new threat named Algorithm, an unstoppable woman with impossible technological enhancements, is testing the team with attacks across the city. Connecting each incident is one common thread: S.T.A.R. Labs. Someone at the scientific research company is hiding something, and this mysterious techno-villain is determined to bring it to light—even if it means tearing every one of their New York facilities down to the ground! Acclaimed writer Will Pfeifer (RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS, CATWOMAN) and artist Kenneth Rocafort (RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS, SUPERMAN) set DC's greatest teen heroes in a new direction with TEEN TITANS: BLINDED BY THE LIGHT. Collects issues #1-7. From School Library JournalGr 7 Up—Red Robin, Wonder Girl, Raven, Bunker, and Beast Boy are teenage superheroes who fight against the kind of enemies readers might expect—terrorists, robots, evil geniuses, and teens who want to use their own abilities for destructive purposes. But they also have other challenges that are affecting their lives. Wonder Girl discovers that she has a fan club of girls who dress like her and want to fight for vigilante justice, but they don't have superpowers, so she feels obligated to protect them. Plus, her mother comes to New York for a surprise visit, and the superheroine has to keep her from harm's way, too. Bunker is defensive about other people's homophobic attitudes, and his violent tirade is recorded and shared with the world. Raven just wants to be an ordinary girl sometimes but finds it difficult to remain incognito. And Red Robin is the only one in the group with no superpowers, and he has to rely on his wits to survive. Rocafort and Hepburn's artwork is colorful, imaginative, and dynamic, especially when illustrating fight scenes and the many entertaining forms that Beast Boy takes throughout the story. VERDICT An exciting volume about teen superheroes who work together to deal with life-or-death problems; a good choice for "Teen Titans" fans as well as readers who are new to the franchise.—Andrea Lipinski, New York Public LibraryAbout the AuthorWill Pfeifer began his writing career on FINALS, a well-received Vertigo miniseries he did in collaboration with Jill Thompson. Since then, his writing has appeared in numerous titles for DC Comics, including TEEN TITANS, CATWOMAN, AQUAMAN, BLOOD OF THE DEMON, H-E-R-O, CAPTAIN ATOM: ARMAGEDDON, and WONDER WOMAN. Baker, PhD Texas A&M University-Commerce, 2017 Advisor: Christopher Gonzalez, PhD Superhero comic books provide a unique perspective on marginalized characters not only as objects of literary study, but also as opportunities for rhetorical analysis. There are representations of race, gender, sexuality, and identity in the costuming of superheroes that impact how the audience perceives the characters. Because of the association between iconography and identity, the superhero costume becomes linked with the superhero persona (for example the Superman “S” logo is a stand-in for the character). However, when iconography is affected by issues of tokenism, the rhetorical message associated with the symbol becomes more difficult to decode. Since comic books are sales-oriented and have a plethora of tie-in merchandise, the iconography in these symbols has commodified implications for those who choose to interact with them. When consumers costume themselves with the visual rhetoric associated with comic superheroes, the wearers engage in a rhetorical discussion where they perpetuate whatever message the audience places on that image.

Terrible creative decisionsBy William LeightonUnfortunately this is where the series takes a gigantic step back. Pfeiffer, in what has to be one of the most dimwitted creative decisions since the Spider-Man One More Day debacle, decided it'd be a great idea to have Zantanna reveal she had tampered with Selina's mind to make her be a good person, invalidating all the previous events of the series. If that wasn't enough, Pfeiffer also skipped ahead a year and gave Selina a child, forcing her out of her role as Catwoman for a while until she asks Zantanna, whom she's trusting because reasons, to erase her memory of her daughter after giving her up for adoption. It's terrible.1 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Enthralling and FunBy Omar D. OdehThis is where Pfeifer's run really gets going. Some entries have been removed, added, or modified to better fit this format. The DC universe is long and storied one, in more ways than one. It’s a universe filled with adventure around every corner, not least among them on Earth, an unassuming but cosmically significant planet out of the way of most space territories. Heroes and villains, from the bottom of the Dark Multiverse to the top of the Monitor Sphere, endlessly struggle for justice, for power, and for control over the fate of the very multiverse itself. Superman can leap tall buildings in a single bound, while other characters like Batman, Dr. Occult, and Sandman have just debuted in their respective cities. • Justice League: Origins
JUSTICE LEAGUE: ORIGINS Written by Chad Handley [email protected] EXT. PARK - DAY An idyllic American park from our Rockwellian past. A pick- up truck pulls up onto a nearby gravel lot. INT. PICK-UP TRUCK - DAY MARTHA KENT (30s) stalls the engine. Her young son, CLARK, (7) apprehensively peeks out at the park from just under the window. MARTHA KENT Go on, Clark. Scoot. CLARK Can’t I go with you? MARTHA KENT No, you may not. A woman is entitled to shop on her own once in a blue moon. And it’s high time you made friends your own age. Clark watches a group of bigger, rowdier boys play baseball on a diamond in the park. CLARK They won’t like me. MARTHA KENT How will you know unless you try? Go on. I’ll be back before you know it. EXT. PARK - BASEBALL DIAMOND - MOMENTS LATER Clark watches the other kids play from afar - too scared to approach. He is about to give up when a fly ball plops on the ground at his feet. He stares at it, unsure of what to do. BIG KID 1 (yelling) Yo, kid. Little help? Clark picks up the ball. Unsure he can throw the distance, he hesitates. Rolls the ball over instead. It stops halfway to Big Kid 1, who rolls his eyes, runs over and picks it up. 2. BIG KID 1 (CONT’D) Nice throw. The other kids laugh at him. Humiliated, Clark puts his hands in his pockets and walks away. Big Kid 2 advances on Big Kid 1; takes the ball away from him.

Where to begin....By NFOk let's start with the art. At times it felt as if it was drawn by a 6th or 7th grader riding in the back of the family motor home going cross country. No clean and clear lines anymore. Those days are gone. Don't get me wrong I understand that it's all a style thing, blood if you're going to do that style you should at least be consistent through the whole book. Not give us one page of like really really awesome pictures and then go back to their original stuff. My opinion. The story felt uneven. There was characters in the book that didn't really need to be there. For instance, Trinity. Why was she there she didn't do anything worthwhile. Kari on and Guardian also seemed kinda useless too. There was, and I can't believe I'm saying this, too many people in this book.

The first quarter of this book is The Culling story, but the rest of it is about the origins of Wonder Girl I"m familiar with Donna Troy from the days before the New 52, and this Wonder Girl is nothing like her.
