Spectator Information Swansea 2014 is the fourth edition of the IPC Athletics European Championships and will see nearly 600 athletes from more than 36 countries across Europe compete at the Swansea University International Sports Village. Full information on the event can be found at www.swansea2014.com Competition Dates The competition runs from Tuesday 19th Aug – Saturday 23rd Aug The Opening Ceremony takes place on Monday 18th Aug, however this is not open to the general public. Seating Allocations The stadium will have two grandstands. The home straight has some cover whilst the back straight is in the open air. You must have your tickets to hand when entering the stadium. All seating is unreserved therefore allocated on a first come, first served basis. Entry to the spectator village will not require a ticket. Accessibility The Championship venue has good general accessibility and all temporary infrastructure has been designed to enablethis. Please note the main grandstands are not accessible for wheelchairs and allocated wheelchair spaces have been provided which will require a wheelchair accessible area ticket, available from all points of sale. Please ensure you familiarise your selves with this document. First Aid & Wellbeing There will be full first aid cover at the venue should you require any care or treatment. It is recommended that you dress appropriately for the weather conditions and be prepared for any changes, i.e. bring a hat/sunscreen and a rain coat. Parking Please be aware that there is no spectator parking at the event venue. Spectator parking is located at: The Recreation Ground (SA2 0AU) 1 On Oystermouth Road near the St. Helen Recreation Ground. This is a short walk (approx. 15 minutes) from the event venue. Parking fees will apply. Sketty Lane - Beach Car Park (SA2 8QB) 2 Located at the junction of Sketty Lane & Oystermouth Road. Approximately 200m from the championship venue. Parking fees will apply. Singleton Park Boating Lake (SA2 8PY) 3 Accessed via Oystermouth Road and located across the road from the championship venue. Parking fees will apply. On Site (SA2 8QG) Very limited accessible parking will be available on site for a limited number of vehicles; users must have their blue badge and wheel chair accessible event ticket on hand for eligibility. Sketty Lane (SA2 8QF) 5 Located at the top of Sketty Lane. Approximately 200m from the championship venue .Parking fees will apply. Singleton Park (SA2 8QF) 6 Accessed via the top of Sketty Lane. This car park will act as an overflow and will only open when the others are full. Approximately 450m from the championship venue. Parking fees will apply Park & Ride A park and ride service will operate for this event. The existing permanent site at Landore will be utilised. The Park & Ride service provides easy and stress free travel into Swansea City Centre Landore Park & Ride site is clearly sign posted from Junction 45 of the M4 Motorway. Operating Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 0700 and 2100 and providing a frequent bus link to and from the City Centre using fully accessible vehicles. It costs just £2.50 to park a car all day and return bus travel for up to 5 passengers. The service does not operate directly to the IPC Swansea 2014 Site and customers will need to change to a regular FTR (Bendy Bus) at the Westway Bus Stop located behind the Grand Theatre. At the Westway Bus Stop - Park and Ride customers will be able to purchase a ticket giving unlimited travel for a day on First Cymru services in the Swansea area for £1.50. You will need to show your park and ride ticket to the driver of any First Cymru bus when you get to the city centre to purchase a £1.50 add – on ticket which will cover bus travel for all members of your party for a day. The site has full CCTV coverage and has received the Secured Car Park Award Cyclists Cyclists are well catered for at Swansea 2014. The venue is located approximately 200m from the Swansea Bay section of Route 4 of the National Cycle Network. Bike racks are available on site. Public Transport As there is no on -site spectator parking provided we advise all locally based spectators to use public transport wherever possible. The nearest bus stops to the event venue are – University campus, Singleton Hospital and Sketty Lane. Bus numbers 2A and 3A depart for the University from Stand No.2 at the Quadrant Bus Station approximately every 15 minutes. These buses will bring you onto the University campus and the event venue is a short distance tothe west. A single ticket costs approximately £2.05. Buses return from the campus to the Quadrant Bus Station at regular intervals. The FTR Metro "bendy-bus" service (bus number 4) also provides a direct link from the railway station and Quadrant shopping centre to the campus. Alternatively, a taxi from the railway station to campus will cost around £8.00. Getting Here - Spectators Leave the M4 at Junction 47 (signposted Swansea A483) Follow signs for ‘Gower’ on the A483. After 2.7m turn right at the major set of lights, following signs for Gower (there is a public house (The Marquis Arms) on your right hand side). After approximately 1.3 miles turn right at the 2nd mini roundabout and follow signs for Singleton Hospital. Follow event signs to the event car parks. The venue may also be accessed via Junction 42 of the M4 Motorway however due to on-going road improvements this route should ideally be avoided during peak hours. .
