However, due to various commitments the tournaments could not be staged until 1975 when the original plan of a South African team's visit to England fell through following opposition to the country's racial policy. England's Prudential Assurance Company came forward with sponsorship and for three consecutive years - 1975, 1979 and 1983, the one-day limited overs cricket tournament was held in England. It became famous as the Prudential Cup. In the first two tournaments, apart from the six full members of the International Cricket Conference (England, Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, India and Pakistan), Sri Lanka, before being elevated to Test status in 1981, had joined East Africa in 1975 and Canada in 1979 (two top teams among the associate members) to complete the groups in the tournaments proper. My buddy is now off to the UK again to watch the Cricket World Cup. Since the Summer Olympics of 2012, a school in Peshawar has been a�acked, so has the Manchester Arena and lately even a mosque in New Zealand. It is clear. The perpetrators want to widen their strike zones to increase the fear. Hence as I write this preview to this mega cricke�ng event, I want to share that safety of all concerned is paramount for me.     LIST OF PLAYERS FROM ASSAM WHO REPRESENTED INDIAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM 1. DR. TALIMEREN AO : Dr. Talimeren Ao was born on 28 January 1918 in Changki village of Nagaland. Talimeren Ao, popularly known as T Ao, is considered as one of India’s all time great soccer players. He played for the Maharana Club of Guwahati In 1943 Ao joined Mohun Bagan. In Mohun Bagan, Ao was Centre-Half and along with his two Backs, they were popularly known as "the Great Wall of China". He was given the captain's armband in 1948 to captain the Indian Football Team in London. In 1948, a year after India won its independence, Ao was the captain of the India national football team in the 1948 Summer Olympics, in the team's first official game and was the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent. The Indian team's first match was against Burma, but the game was a walkover. In India's second match, against France, the team lost 2–1, with the India goal coming from Sarangapani Raman. Ao played five more matches for India before retiring. Dr. Ao was Doctor by profession and he was given the post of Assistant Civil Surgeon. He later became Civil Surgeon. He went on to be appointed Director of Nagaland Health Services, from which he retired in 1978. In 2002 the Mohun Bagan honored him by creating the Mohun Bagan Ratna Award and giving him a Life Membership. In Assam, an outdoor stadium at Kaliabor and an indoor stadium at Cotton College have been named after him.
