CONFESSIONS of a SOWETO DRUG MULE: “I APOLOGIZE to the PEOPLE WHOSE LIVES I RUINED.” Everson Luhanga
Friday 19th February 2021, 0145 Real News. Scrolla.Africa CONFESSIONS OF A SOWETO DRUG MULE: “I APOLOGIZE TO THE PEOPLE WHOSE LIVES I RUINED.” Everson Luhanga Chasing money and the good life, Sizakele became a drug dealer in Soweto. Soon, she took her first trip to Brazil - to bring back drugs. It was a successful trip. She got the drugs, and was sitting in the plane at the airport in Sao Paulo looking forward to leaving for OR Tambo. But the cops were on to her. They arrested her on the plane. She then served five years in a Brazilian jail. This is her story: Sizakele’s father died when she was two, and she was raised by her mother. At 26, she became an orphan, turning to her uncle to care for her - and that’s when her life took a dark turn. Sizakele Maphupha’s dreams of becoming a doctor turned to dust when, instead of sending her back to school, he convinced her to become a drug mule. Speaking to Scrolla.Africa at her home in Mapetla Soweto, Sizekele said: “My uncle was supplying drugs to many people around Soweto and other parts of the province. He was making money. “He promised to buy me a Range Rover and I melted. I wanted that car whatever the cost. I joined him as a drug dealer.” She went around, supplying drugs to brothels, strip clubs and taverns. She was making money again and life was good. Then her uncle asked her to travel to Brazil. “There was more money to be made smuggling drugs from overseas,” she explained. -

Football Academy Model in South Africa. Mark Mcilroy 296212
Creating a sustainable, competitive advantage within a ‘winning’ football academy model in South Africa. Mark McIlroy 29621276 A research project submitted to the Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Business Administration. 10 November 2010 © University of Pretoria Abstract African football academies are a seriously neglected field of research but are a highly important step in the evolution of football (Scherrens, 2007). The study is motivated by the lack of research on football academy structures in particular South Africa. The primary focus of the research is on football development in South Africa, whilst it also reviews substantial literature concerning the phenomenon of elite sport development in order to explain the dynamics surrounding the football academy structure. The study identifies the relevant key components within the current football models and proposes a ‘winning’ model for South Africa. The study unpacks two theoretical frameworks, in understanding the impact of competitive advantage within a football academy. Through gaining insight into the strategic models employed within the various researched academy systems, this study outlines the important resources, competencies and capabilities within a football academy. The analysis revealed certain trends and provided the basis for the answering of the research questions. Hence the broad scope which is critical to understanding the football development phenomenon. The research aims to empower administrators and management of football clubs in South Africa with the strategic knowledge to provide a sustainable and competitive academy through player development, which can aid our national teams. The dynamic processes involved in football development enabled a winning model for a football academy in South Africa which could provide a competitive, sustainable advantage for a football academy. -

Having added Robin van Persie to his extensive arsenal of striking options the Manchester United manager has now forced Rooney’s position as the team’s first-choice striker into question. Africans have morethanmadetheirmarkin South Pocket Guide to South Africa 2008/09 SPORTS AND RECREATION Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) aims to improve the quality of life of all South Africans by promoting participation in sport and recreation in the country, and through the participation of sportspeople and teams in international sporting events. Sport has the potential to build social cohesion and national unity. South Africa was bound together when the country won the Rugby World Cup in 1995 and again in 2007, the African Cup of Nations in 1996 as well as when it won the right to host the 2010 World Cup in 2004. Sport in South Africa is a multibillion-rand industry and contri- butes more than 2% to the country’s gross domestic product. The country has successfully hosted major international events, including the rugby, cricket and women’s golf world cups and will be sure to impress when it hosts the Confederations Cup 2009 and the FIFA World Cup in 2010TM. Mass participation The Siyadlala Mass Participation Programme (SMPP) is the cradle of community sports in South Africa. The programme was launched in 2005 to facilitate access to sport and recreation for as many South Africans as possible, especially those from histori- cally disadvantaged communities. The SRSA launched the programme with a budget of R20 million. This has since increased to more than R290 million with the inclusion of school sport and legacy development. Hubs (geographical centres of activity within five kilometres’ walking radius) increased from 36 to 451 in 2007, with over three million participants in various activities, ranging from indigenous games to rugby, soccer, netball, baseball, general gymnastics, hockey, aerobics, handball, boxing, cricket, swimming, dance sport, volleyball and basketball. -
