Florida on Film Film on Florida Centerpiece Films These Films Are Hot Hot Hot ABOUT THE ARTWORK Last December, more than twenty students entered a competition created in partnership between the Sarasota Film Festival and Ringling College of Art and Design. Entrants were tasked with taking the tagline “See and Be Seen” and creating artwork that would breathe life into this year’s SFF campaign, serving as inspiration for the entire season. After presenting their ideas and works to SFF’s Board and staff, the winning Artist was chosen. Sarasota native Tyler Mathis has created a triptych of posters organized around the homophonic, multi-dimensional play on words, as both See/Sea and Seen/Scene can be used interchangeably. You will see Tyler’s artwork throughout SFF on street banners, advertisements, trailers and merchandise. Additionally, his prize for winning the contest was to secure a staff position as animator of SFF’s screenwash, the sponsor thank you animation that runs ahead of all films during the Festival. Throughout the Festival, you will also see SFF logo animations created by Ringling College of Art and Design’s Motion Design Department. This partnership spanning many years gives the sophomore class of Motion Design Department students a semester to create matching 15 second logo reveals and 30 second looping backdrop animations to be used at various Festival events. Congratulations go to Brittany Maugeri and Pramod Sonea whose animation will kick off the Festival on Opening Night, March 31st. Many thanks to Ringling College, the staff, and the students of the Collaboratory and Motion Design programs for their hours of creativity and dedication. Taking gender, as a particular relation to cultural power and privilege, as its focus, The Second Woman explores the ways in which gender privilege and power expresses itself through feeling. The Second Woman began as a small self-funded project. It was a high-risk endeavor as, although we could test the work with multiple participants, we couldn’t test the durational aspect of the show. There is no way to rehearse a 24-hour production that relies on audience and participants. With so many variables and unknowns, we went into our second performance with an equal amount of dread.

  • Kering and the Festival De Cannes Will Present the 2017 Women in Motion Award to Isabelle Huppert the Young Talents Award Will Be Presented to Maysaloun Hamoud
Kering and the Festival de Cannes will present the 2017 Women in Motion Award to Isabelle Huppert The Young Talents Award will be presented to Maysaloun Hamoud International film icon Isabelle Huppert will receive the third Women in MotionAward presented by Kering and the Festival de Cannes. Isabelle Huppert has chosen director and scriptwriter Maysaloun Hamoud to receive the Young Talents Award. François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival de Cannes, and Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate of the Festival of Cannes, will present these awards during the official Women in Motion dinner on Sunday, 21 May 2017. Credits: Brigitte Lacombe For the third Women in Motion programme, official partner Kering and the Festival de Cannes will present the Women in Motion Award to French actress Isabelle Huppert. Exceptionally free-spirited and bold, Isabelle Huppert has taken many artistic risks in her career, and whilst acting with leading names, she has successfully established her own style in a variety of registers ranging from drama to comedy. She has pushed back boundaries with the strong and far-from-stereotypical roles that she has played since the early days of her career. Whether being directed by legendary filmmakers or by a brilliant new generation of talented filmmakers, Isabelle Huppert is one of the most inspirational figures in the world of cinema. Isabelle Huppert has in turn chosen to honour Maysaloun Hamoud by awarding her the Young Talents prize. In 2016 this young Palestinian director and scriptwriter made her first feature film, In Between (Bar Bahar), which chronicles the daily lives of three young Palestinian women living in Tel Aviv, torn between family traditions and their desire for independence.
