COLLECTION OVERVIEW Provenance This addition of Jon Altman’s papers was received in March, September, November and December 2014 and October 2015, from Jon Altman’s offices, which were in two locations, and Annick Thomassin’s office at ANU (Australian National University). A more detailed description of the provenance of each group of papers can be found in the description for each Series. Arrangement note The majority of papers had been pre packed by the donor prior to them being delivered to AIATSIS or collected from ANU. After consultation with Jon Altman, the material has been

MS 4721 Jon Altman research collection Part B arranged to reflect the way it was used and filed by him. Suspension file and manila folder headings have formed the basis of file descriptions. Scope and contents note The papers of Jon Altman include pamphlets, published and unpublished reports, field notebooks and diaries and other original materials created by the donor in the course of a diverse academic and consultancy career focused on Aboriginal economic development issues. (Papers covering the years 1977-2010 form the bulk of the collection and are found in Series 1 to Series 11, which are described in the finding aid: MS 4721 Jon Altman research material Part A) The material in Part B, this finding aid, includes material relating to mining, the Northern Territory Emergency Response 2007, governance and economics, environment, people on country, resource management, wildlife management, art valuations, and Momega and Maningrida population data. Accrual note It is expected that Jon Altman will deposit more material in future years. SERIES DESCRIPTION Series 12 Research material 1980-1990

Provenance note This material was received in March 2014 comprising three large file boxes containing suspension files and loose manila folders. Each box had a list describing the contents. The dates range from 1980 to 1990 on these lists. In November and December 2014 the contents were housed in archival boxes. File boxes 1 and 2 contained suspension files and these were housed in order. File box 3 contained 7 manila folders stacked on top of each other. Box 1 - label: 'Coronation Hill' Housed 25 Nov 2014. Series description Series 13 includes material relating to the Northern Territory Emergency Response in 2007. Most of the material has a date range of 2007 to 2014 but some dates from 2002. Immediate source of acquisition note Material was collected from Jon Altman's office at ANU and Annick Thomassin’s office at ANU on 24th September 2014. Archivist’s note Collection includes loose papers, magazine boxes and plastic folders containing papers. These had been stored in another office close to Jon Altman's. These items were collected on Wed 24 Sept 2014 and put into Marbig file boxes for transport to AIATSIS. These items were temporarily rehoused in November and December 2014. A description of the contents was taken from the magazine holders and manila folder headings and was recorded on a box list. This list formed the basis of this series and item description. Series description Series 14 consists of material from Jon's office, including magazine boxes, and filing cabinet contents dating from 2005-2013. General note This material was acquired in September, November and December 2014.
