USASA NBOD Meeting Minutes December 19, 2018 Conference Call Called to order at 9:03pm (EST) by President John Motta John thanked everyone for making themselves available for tonight’s call on such short notice. Roll Call – Karon Beyer called roll. All members were present Minutes from previous meeting were sent out by email to the members and accepted without correction. • USSF Board Meeting re-caps – John Motta (John & Richard Moeller attended) A. Gregg Berhalter has been named as the new Men’s National Team Coach. The team has been scheduled to play two games, January 27th vs. Panama (AriZona), February 02nd vs. Costa Rica (California) and the Goal Cup in June B. Women’s National Team has pulled a favorable group in the World Cup draw. Group play includes Chile, Sweden, Thailand C. US Soccer is down to three finalists for the position of Independent Director, and John will keep us informed D. Technical Development Committee: In 2017, referees at reffing at the NWSL were only 27% women and in 2018, 30% women. John also brought up his concern that US Soccer does not have many male referees in the FIFA pipeline E. USSF Vice President: Cindy Parlow Cone has announced she will be running for the position of USSF VP in February at the AGM in Scottsdale Arizona. F. USSF Chief Soccer Officer: Ryan Mooney has resigned as Chief Soccer Officer and will be moving on to a new venture called Playmakers Management Group. G. Budget: Audit on the budget shows an 11.7 million dollar deficient. The development programs will show a deficient in the next several years. I. New Television Contract. A new contract will be up for negotiation in 2022 and (hopefully) will include a financial increase with the 2026 Men’s World Cup being hosted in the US/Canada/Mexico. K. US Soccer Initiative to Grow: There were 23 applicants for the Grant and only 3 were from the USASA. Idaho was identified as one of the three. Discussion on the difficulty of submitting for the grant and how the information is distributed to the states. There was a request to Duncan to identify the other two states. Paul Scherer (Idaho) says the application is much easier this year and that states need to be aware that the grant request must align with US Soccer’s initiative to grow membership. Information is sent from US Soccer, monthly, to all state association presidents and executive directors. Duncan advised us that US Soccer is helping USASA to identify a possible national grant that will benefit the entire USASA membership. L. US Soccer National Data: US Soccer has 1.4 million registrations from 44 different associations. 60% of the registrations are male. M. Youth Task Force: US Soccer now has six sub groups: 1) Referees, 2) Coaches, 3) Risk Management (including Safe Sport), 4) Membership Growth, 5) Standards & Certificates, 6) Diversity & Inclusion N. Women’s World Cup: A new Campaign was launched on December 06th, 2018. The US has bought more tickets then and other country as this point. The Semi & Final games are already sold out. The Women’s team will travel to six cities for a Kick Off tour. O. Maryland/Virginia boundaries for the youth: A complaint was filed by Maryland/DC Youth to determine who controls the DC area, and that players must register with their home state. US Youth Soccer is still working on this with their Board. P. Richard Groff has been given the Life Member designation by US Soccer and April Heinrichs is the recipient of the Werner Fricker Builders Award. Q. Athletic Council: Elections for the 2018 US Soccer Athletic Council have concluded and we have four incumbents returning and six new members. Chris Ahrens, Yael Averbuch, Carlos Bocanegra, Landon Donovan, Kevin Hensley, Ali Krieger, Alex Morgan, Nick Perera, Becky Sauerbrunn, Lindsay Tarpley. R. US Soccer AGM: the 2020 US Soccer AGM will be held in Nashville, Tennessee S. The Athletic Council has extended an invitation for John & Richard to attend their meeting in February in Phoenix, AriZona T. John has extended an invitation to all the Councils to meet in February in Arizona. • Dunkin Donut Sponsorship – John reported: Dunkin Donut is in negotiations with USASA (Duncan Riddle) to be a sponsor for the 2019 USASA Soccer Fest. Dunkin has agreed to $10,000.00 in cash and we are working with them for an additional ($15,000.00) in kind gift cards for the players. • 2019 Meeting Dates - John & Duncan The NBOD board will meet on the first (9pm EST) Wednesday of every month by conference call. Exceptions will be the months that the board meets in person, see calendar at the end of the minutes. • UEFA Competition – John reported: USASA International Competition Concept was emailed out to the members to review before the meeting. Suggestion by the members for Duncan to clarify 1. Timing in the US 2. Will this extend our Championship 3. Who will pay for the event? Motion made by Werner Fricker: to approve USASA to proceed into negotiations with UEFA, 2nd by Karon Beyer and motion passes • Unfinished Business – Financial committee appointments & Policy approval tabled until January 2019 meeting. • New Business: Questions to be addressed. A. UPSL Referee Assault Hearing: There were postings to social media about referee communities’ reaction to a Referee Assault. B. National League Player Registrations: Will players that participate in the UPSL/MPSL be required to register in their state? Announcement: Richard Moeller informed the board that Nick Calabro’s father had passed away and it was agreed that USASA (Duncan) would send something appropriate to Nick & his family.
