  • Urgent Letter
April 27, 2020 The Honorable Nancy Pelosi The Honorable Kevin McCarthy Speaker of the House Republican Leader U.S. House of Representatives U.S. House of Representatives Washington, DC 20510 Washington, DC 20510 The Honorable Mitch McConnell The Honorable Chuck Schumer Majority Leader Democratic Leader U.S. Senate U.S. Senate Washington, DC 20510 Washington, DC 20510 Dear Speaker Pelosi, Leader McConnell, Leader Schumer & Leader McCarthy: On behalf of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) and the undersigned hoteliers and hotel employees from all 50 states, we thank you for your steadfast leadership in guiding our nation through this unprecedented health and economic crisis. The economic impact of the COVID-19 health crisis on the hotel industry is estimated to be nine times greater than the September 11th terrorist attacks. According to Oxford Economics, nearly 4 million hotel employees have been furloughed and the industry is expected to lose nearly fifty percent of its total revenue in 2020 – which could exceed $112 Billion. From the beginning of this health and economic crisis, we have been focused on two main objectives: first, supporting and retaining hotel employees as demand has diminished; and second, saving the U.S. network of local hotels, the majority of which are small businesses. The hotel industry relies on a dedicated and talented hospitality workforce and is hopeful that we can restart the economy so that we can restore these critical jobs. However, if hotels across this country are insolvent and default on their loan obligations, then we will not be successful in retaining hotel employees. Hotel employees and local hotel owners have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through no fault of their own.

  • From the Desk of Director Warm Greetings from NGMA Bengaluru! There Has Been a Long Interval Af- Ter the Third Issue of the NGMA E-Newsletter
National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru Government of India volume 1 | issue 4 from the desk of director Warm greetings from NGMA Bengaluru! There has been a long interval af- ter the third issue of the NGMA e-newsletter. One reason is that we have been so busy with holding events that there was little time for chronicling them. There were two large exhibitions in the NGMA between May and October. The first was a wonderful retrospective of the photo journalist Homai Vyarawalla which generated tremendous interest and was accom- panied by a rich plethora of outreach programmes. The other, which was the first exhibition initiated and organized by NGMA Bengaluru, was a ret- rospective of KK Hebbar, whose birth centenary was celebrated this year. For perhaps the first time, more than 180 works of this wonderful art- ist were exhibited together, showing the development and changes in his thinking and art over the years. The exhibition An Artist’s Quest: KK Hebbar – A Retrospective was on view from 21st August till 20th October and was accompanied by 15 outreach programmes, including a puppet show based on the Silappadhikaram, which Hebbar had illustrated with 51 drawings which were on view at the exhibition. NGMA Bengaluru also organized a large number of other interesting events during this time, including the celebration of World Heritage Day in April with lectures and films on heritage and conservation. We now ea- gerly look forward to the large variety of events scheduled for December and January and to the exhibition of the works of the Bangalore based landscape artist Rumale Chennabasaviah – Varna Mythri: Rumale Chen- nabasaviah – Centenary Retrospective 2011.
