  • 10 Additional MTR Stations and Vending Machines for Distributing COVID-19 Specimen Collection Packs
PR086/20 18 December 2020 10 Additional MTR Stations and Vending Machines for Distributing COVID-19 Specimen Collection Packs The MTR Corporation set up vending machines at ten MTR stations for the public to collect COVID-19 specimen collection packs on 7 December 2020 and the arrangement has been smooth so far. To provide greater convenience to the community, following communication with relevant government departments, the distribution of specimen collection packs will be extended to ten more stations tomorrow (19 December 2020), making the packs available at 20 MTR stations. The ten additional stations are Shau Kei Wan, Wan Chai, Sai Ying Pun, Ho Man Tin, Prince Edward, Kai Tak, Wu Kai Sha, Tsuen Wan West, Sheung Shui and Tung Chung stations. The Corporation will continue to install more vending machines and targets to have two machines in each of the 20 stations by early 2021. The supply of the specimen collection packs by government contractor will be at about 14,000 packs per day and the amount will be suitably adjusted based on actual demand. The MTR Mobile and MTR website will continue to provide updates on the supply at stations. (Please refer to the annex for details about the locations of the vending machines.) Members of the public can scan the QR codes near the vending machines for information about returning the specimen collected. Notices about the designated General Out-patience Clinics of the Hospital Authority or clinics of the Department of Health accepting specimen collected near the relevant stations will also be on display. Please refer to this government website for details about returning specimen collected: https://www.coronavirus.gov.hk/eng/early- testing.html MTR calls on members of the public collecting the packs to maintain social distance and personal hygiene.

  • Paper No. 23/2008 for Information on 19 November 2008
Paper No. 23/2008 For information on 19 November 2008 Harbour-front Enhancement Committee Sub-committee on Harbour Plan Review Amendments to the Approved Shau Kei Wan Outline Zoning Plan No. S/H9/14 Introduction 1. This paper is to brief Members on the latest amendments to the Approved Shau Kei Wan Outline Zoning Plan (OZP) No. S/H9/14 (renumbered as S/H9/15), in particular the imposition of building height restrictions on developments in the Shau Kei Wan area (the Area). Background 2. The draft Shau Kei Wan OZP No. S/H9/15 (Annex A) mainly incorporating building height restrictions for various development zones, was exhibited under section 5 of the Town Planning Ordinance on 7 November 2008 for a period of two months until 7 January 2009. Any person may make written representation in respect of the amendments to the OZP to the Secretary of the Town Planning Board (TPB) within the 2-month exhibition period. Incorporation of Building Height Restrictions 3. In the absence of building height restrictions, new developments will tend to be very tall and designed to maximize the façade with seaview. Excessively tall buildings protruding from an area of a generally low building profile could result in negative visual and air ventilation impacts. In the Area, there are already some developments which are rather tall and may not be conducive to a good urban form. The review aims to provide better planning control on the built-environment and to meet public aspirations for a better living environment. Overall Building Height Concept (Plan 1) 4.

  • An Empirical Study Conducted in Hong Kong's Underground MTR Platforms
!1 The effects of Platform Screen Doors on air quality in underground subway platforms and train cabins An empirical study conducted in Hong Kong’s underground MTR platforms and trains using portable aerosol monitors Hongjin LIN Under the guidance of Professor Jimmy Fung Environment Studies Division at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Urban Environment Policy Department at Occidental College August 13rd, 2016 !2 1. Introduction Underground rapid transit system has become an essential element of urban citizens’ daily lives since the world’s first underground mass transportation system started operations in London in 1863. After 153 years of expansion, there are more than 150 subway systems in the world in the year of 2016, servicing commuters in New York, Beijing, Tokyo, Barcelona, Seoul and other major cities in the world (UITP statistics, 2015). Its high efficiency, large capacity and many other unique benefits enable subway system to become one of the most popular transportation modes in urban areas where residents spend an average of 1-2 hours (12.5%-25%) of a working day underground commuting to and from work (UITP statistics, 2015). Among the world’s busiest subway networks, Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system runs 20 hours and 8,000 train trips per day, with an average daily ridership of 4.69 million (Hong Kong Government stats, 2016). Since its first operation in 1979, MTR is by far the most popular transportation mode in Hong Kong, accounting for 41% of the total 12 million public transport passenger journeys made daily (Hong Kong Government stats, 2016).

  • The Lone Wolf
The Lone Wolf She heaved another breath of resignation as she stepped out of the alley. That was when her attention was caught by the red minibus parking nearby. What attracted her was the sign on top of the mini bus. The light behind it was going on and off by itself and the words “Shek O” kept flashing, as if it was urging her to let out the howl building up in her. *** “Wolves...hunters in the wild...they are more similar to us than we might think.” As Sung Ling plugged in her earphones, her mom’s sand-like voice slipped in between the lines narrated by a deep charismatic male voice in the podcast playing on her phone. 1 “Ah nui , when are you going to bring home a boyfriend?” “Wolves are social animals...” “You are almost 30. People at your age have kids who are attending kindergarten already.” “They are more likely to survive when they live as a pack and hunt collectively as a team...” “Who’s gonna take care of you when you grow old? You need a family of your own. You need children of your own!” “A lone wolf who hunts alone is less likely to survive in the wild…” “You don’t wanna be all alone for the rest of your life...” Sung Ling quickly devoured her breakfast and picked up her bag. Before she stepped out of her house, she heard the male voice saying, “Solitary life is a constant fight for survival in the wild...” *** 1 Ah nui: means daughter in Cantonese Ladies in their shocking pink windbreakers and sharp yellow visors gossiping loudly and casting judgmental glances at every outsider of their group… “Wolves howl together to scare off strangers…” Boys in all white uniforms jumping and chasing after one another… “When wolves want to play, they would prance around and lower the front of their bodies with their tails wagging…” A little boy in light blue primary school uniform shouting goodbyes at his parents as he stepped onto the school bus… “Young wolves take off to form their own packs or join others after staying in their parents’ pack for at least two years.” A couple arm in arm, giggling and blushing..
