The purpose of this help document is to provide the basic export settings for PDF creation for digital print from QuarkXPress. Please Select Applicable Layout Below To Proceed These settings represent documents that have content with bleed that are trimmed after production, and documents that have content without bleed that are not trimmed. V1.4 11162016 QuarkXPress / Digital Print PDF PDF Creation Help Guide —Document Content Intent With Bleed The purpose of this help document is to provide the basic export settings for PDF creation for digital print, and specific for documents with content intended to bleed. While some settings are called out with additional detail, please ensure your settings match the screenshots.

Document Setup New or existing Document Setup (Example based on 8.5” x 11”):

Set to the applicable orientation, margins, and trim / finish size of your document

Tip: Create custom templates for later use (i.e. 8.5” x 11” with applicable orientation, margins, guides, etc.). Create by opening an existing Quark document, and selecting Save As from the File menu. Name the new template, select Project Template from the drop-down menu, and click Save.

Create A New or Import Attached Output Style Define a new Output Style using the following steps 1 - 17 as a guide, or select the shortcut arrow below-right to go directly to Import Attached Output Style section on page 5 to import the attached Output Styles.

Select to go directly to import Output Styles option

1. Select Output Styles... from Edit menu

2. Select existing PDF/X-4 style as a template, then select Duplicate.

Note: If PDF/X-4 is not available in older versions, select PDF/X-3: 2002, then select Duplicate. Continue ➤➤

3. Create PDF Style - tab

In the PDF Style field, rename the duplicated style to a name that distinguishes PDF export settings with bleed. Example: “PDF - With Bleed”.

Verification: set to None

Leave checkbox options unchecked

4. Create PDF Style - Meta Data tab

Leave defaults as-is

5. Create PDF Style - Hyperlinks tab

Uncheck (do not include hyperlinks)

6. Create PDF Style - Compression tab

Match compression settings (defaults)

7. Create PDF Style - Color tab

Select Mode Composite

Select CMYK and Spot for Setup

8. Create PDF Style - Fonts tab

Check box to Download All Fonts

9. Create PDF Style - Registration Marks tab

Set as follows: Mode: Centered Width: .003” Length: .25” Offset: .25” Do not include bleed marks

10. Create PDF Style - Bleed tab

Set Bleed Type to Symmetric; the value for all fields set to .125”

Check box to Clip at Bleed Edge

11. Create PDF Style - Transparency tab

Set Composite for QuarkXPress Objects to Export Transparency Natively Leave all other field defaults as-is

12. Create PDF Style - JDF tab - leave defaults as-is

13. Create PDF Style - Layers tab - leave defaults as-is

14. Create PDF Style - Notes tab - leave defaults as-is

15. Create PDF Style - Redline tab - leave defaults as-is

16. Once all tabs have been set, select OK

17. The new PDF Style now requires saving. Verify the new style is in the Output Styles list, then select Save to complete PDF Style setup.

The follow steps describe how you may detach and import the XML file for immediate use. 1. Go to the Attachments panel of this help document, select the attached file “Q_PDF_With Bleed.”.

2. Select Save Attachment icon, choose download location to your desktop, and select Save

3. Select Output Styles... from Edit menu.

Exporting To PDF With Saved Output Style Now that you have created or imported the Output Style for documents with bleed, you may utilize as follows: 1. Open QuarkXPress document that is ready to create a print ready PDF.

2. Go to the File menu, select Export > Layout as PDF...

3. Enter applicable PDF name in Save As field.

4. Set the applicable page Range or default All under Pages field.

5. Select Q_PDF - With Bleed for PDF Style, and select Save. The PDF will now save to name and location you chose.
