CHAMPIONSHIP REGULATIONS

ADMINISTRATION The Atlantic 10 Women’s Lacrosse Championship is under the control, direction and supervision of the Atlantic 10 Conference and the administration of the host institution. The Atlantic 10 Conference will have the final authority regarding all Championship matters.

Some adjustments may be expected in the best interests of the Championship. The Atlantic 10 representative(s) must approve those adjustments with the input of the host institution administrator.

The 2016‐2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship Handbook will serve as a general guide for the Atlantic 10 Championship.

FORMAT The Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship is a single‐elimination championship involving six (6) qualifying conference members. Seeds are determined by regular season conference standings according to final overall conference records and the tie‐ breaking formula, if necessary.

The winner of the Atlantic 10 Women’s Lacrosse Championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Pairings will be announced Sunday, May 7 on www.ncaa.com

TIE‐BREAKING FORMULA The following tie‐breaking format is utilized to determine seeding.

SEEDING AND TIE‐BREAKER 1. Head‐to‐head competition between tied teams. 2. Composite winning percentage versus all common Conference opponents. This becomes step ‘A’ if all games between tied teams are not played due to unforeseen circumstances. 3. Each team’ winning percentage versus the highest common opponent in the standings and continuing down through the lowest common opponent in the standings, if necessary. 4. Goal differential of the tied teams in head‐to‐head competition (maximum of 10 goal differential per game). 5. Goal differential against common Conference opponents (maximum of 10 goal differential per game) 6. Goal differential versus the highest common Conference opponent in the standing, if necessary (maximum of 10 goal differential per game) 7. Coin toss if a tie exists among two teams and a draw if a tie exists among three or more teams.

NOTE: All ties will be broken in descending order. Once ties are broken, they remain broken through the tie breaker process. Each time a tie is broken (regardless of the number of remaining tied teams), the tie‐breaker procedure begins anew with step ‘1’.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET Seeding of teams will be formally announced by the conference office on Saturday, April 29th after the conclusion of the last regular season game. If a coin flip or draw is necessary, it will be administered by the A‐10 Commissioner or her designee at the conclusion of the last regular season game. Bracket will be released to coaches 30 minutes before public release.

GAME OFFICIALS All games will be officiated by three Atlantic 10 field officials and one alternate. The Atlantic 10 Conference Coordinator of Officials will determine the officials for the Championship. Assignments will be released to the coaches on the pre‐championship call.

PLAYING RULES NCAA 2016‐17 Women’s Lacrosse Rules shall govern championship play.
