The kit can be installed in either the original RR2 two-player cabinet or the RR2 single-player upright cabinet. Note: Each Rave Racer upgrade kit contains parts to convert TWO driver positions 2.0 INTRODUCTION This manual provides installation instructions for the Rave Racer upgrade kit. inspect the kit contents, compare against the parts list in the back of this manual, and notify your distributor and/or shipping carrier about any missing or damaged parts. 3.0 INSTALLATION 3.1 Precautions 1. Before replacing any parts, turn the AC power OFF and unplug the game. 2. The game’s video monitor chassis, when exposed, presents a HIGH VOLTAGE shock hazard. If it becomes necessary to work in the back of the game while the power is on, use extreme care to avoid touching the monitor. RIDGE RACER 2” namco Q Upgrade Kit Manual RAVE RACER- 3.2 Game Installation 1. Verify that power has been removed from the game. 2. Open the rear door to gain access to the 110 PCB (on top of the card cage). 3. Refer to the wiring diagram for your game in the back of this manual. Locate the 50-pin connector, J402. 4. Add connections for the VIEW CHANGE switch: Remove the 50-pin connector at J402 (on the I/O PCB) and insert the Molex-type pins (from new cable harness RV50-04365-00) into A5 and A6 (of the 50-pin connector), with the WHITE wire going to A5 and the BUCK wire going to A6. Refer to drawing RV50-04400-00. Reconnect the 50-pin connector to J402. Remove the control panel to add the VIEW CHANGE button. Drill a 7/8” hole to the left of the steering wheel. Install the VIEW CHANGE button. Tighten the nut before snapping the lamp assembly into place. 9. Connect the quick-disconnect lug from the WHITE wire (of new harness, RV50-04364-00) to the gold pin designated NO (pin 4, Normally Open) of the lamp assembly. 10. Connect the quick-disconnect lug from the BLACK wire to the silver pin (designated COM) of the lamp assembly. 11. While reinstalling the control panel, connect the two-pin plug of the new VIEW CHANGE harness to the plug on the PCB harness added in Step 4. 2 nanmom RIDGE RACER T RAVE RACER” Upgrade Kit Manual IO. Remove the System 22 PCB set from the rear of each unit, using care to prevent damage to the wiring or connectors. CAUTION: USE ANTI-STATIC PROTECTION FOR THE FOLLOWING WORK ] 11. On each game, remove the EMI cover from the PCB rack and set it aside. 12. Remove the CPU and Video main boards from the card cage and place them on a flat, anti-static surface. 13. Observe the 10 devices and 2 PCBs which are supplied with the kit. Remove the corresponding devices and (smaller of the two) PCB from the main CPU board. Remove the (larger of the two) PCB from the Video board. 14. Install the new devices and PCBs from the kit. Note: Install device C388 in previously empty socket 12R (Key custom) on the CPU board. 15. Carefully reassemble the card cages, and reinstall them in the game cabinet, making sure that all connectors are properly seated. 16. Remove the original marquee plastic panel and replace with the new acrylic Rave Racer marquee. 13. Perform game initialization per Section 3.5, Power-Up and Initialization. 3.3 Cabinet Graphics 1. Install the cabinet graphics provided. Float the graphics on by applying a spray of ammonia cleaner to each surface. Smooth out the bubbles and liquid with a paint squeegee. Wipe the decal dry with a soft cloth. RIDGE RACER 2’” namco * Upgrade Kit Manual RAVE RACER- 3.4 Linked Game Operation It is possible to link up to eight RAVE RACER driver positions together. The linking procedure is the same as that used on Ridge Racer 2: 1. Turn OFF the main AC power to the game. 2. Remove the link cables from the kit or cash box. 3. Using the link cables, connect the cabinets as shown in Figure 1 Note: The switch settings shown apply to the Ridge Racer 2 two-player cabinet. Ridge Racer 2 single- player upright cabinet requires the addition of optional 1 P Link PCB p/n VG03-04270-00. 4. Be careful not to pull on the cables while working around the rear of the cabinet. 5. Turn ON the main AC power. 6. Refer to section TEST MODE, Game Options, for instructions on how to set up the “CPU Number” and car type/color for each of the linked driver positions. w- Connecting three 5etf Q- Figure 1 Connecting four sets 4 namco 0 RIDGE RACER 2” RAVE RACER’” 3.5 Power-Up and Initialization The following procedure should always be performed at the time of initial power-up, or when any of these components have been removed or replaced: l Game PCBs .
