We will be marking this significant birthday celebration throughout 2017 with a series of events and rcs.ac.uk/boxoffice 170 years of performances. In 1847, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland was first Performing Arts established in order “to provide mental cultivation, moral improvement and delightful recreation to all classes.” With the inaugural ‘soiree’ hosted by none other than Charles Education Dickens, the institution has always attracted the very best educators, innovators and performers. 6 Over the past 170 years the institution has developed and grown into a world-leading conservatoire. We are at the forefront of performing arts education, ranked 6th in the world*. Thousands of graduates have studied with us and progressed on to influence the arts and the communities they live in.
