PRELUDE

PSALM 118:1-2, 19-29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his mercy endures for ever. Let Israel now proclaim, ”His mercy endures for ever.”

Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them; I will offer thanks to the Lord. ”This is the gate of the Lord; he who is righteous may enter.” I will give thanks to you, for you answered me and have become my salvation. The same stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes. On this day the Lord has acted; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Hosannah, Lord, hosannah! Lord, send us now success. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; we bless you from the house of the Lord. God is the Lord; he has shined upon us; form a procession with branches up to the horns of the altar. ”You are my God, and I will thank you; you are my God, and I will exalt you.” Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his mercy endures for ever.

THE LITURGY OF THE PALMS Leader Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. All Hosanna in the highest.

1

Leader Dear friends in Christ, during Lent… Let them be for us signs of the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. All Amen.

THE PROCESSION Leader Let us go forth in peace. All In the name of Christ. Amen.

♫ HYMN IN PROCESSION Hosanna, Loud Hosanna 1. Hosanna loud hosanna The little children sang. Through pillar’d court and temple The lovely anthem rang. To Jesus who had blessed them Close folded to His breast. The children sang their praises The simplest and the best.

2. From Olivet they followed Mid an exultant crowd. The victor palm branch waving And chanting clear and loud. The Lord of men and angels Rode on in lowly state. Nor scorned that little children Should on His biding wait.

3. Hosanna in the highest That ancient song we sing. For Christ is our Redeemer The Lord of heav'n our King. O may we ever praise Him With heart and life and voice. And in His blissful presence Eternally rejoice.

2

Celebrant Let us pray, All Almighty God, whose Son was crucified yet entered into glory, may we, walking in the way of the cross, find it is for us the way of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

SERMON

THE NICENE CREED Leader Let us confess our faith, as we say, All We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

My Jesus, I believe that you are present with us at all times. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. ♫ CLOSING HYMN #375 At the Name of Jesus (verses 1, 3, 4 & 5) 1. At the Name of Jesus every knee shall bow, every tongue confess him King of glory now; 'tis the Father's pleasure we should call him Lord, who from the beginning was the mighty Word.

3. Name him, Christians, name him, with love strong as death, but with awe and wonder, and with bated breath; he is God the Saviour, he is Christ the Lord, ever to be worshipped, trusted, and adored.

4. In your hearts enthrone him; there let him subdue all that is not holy, all that is not true; crown him as your Saviour in temptation's hour; let his will enfold you in its light and power.

5. Christians, this Lord Jesus shall return again, with his Father's glory, with his angel train; for all wreaths of empire meet upon his brow, and our hearts confess him King of Glory now.

THE DISMISSAL Leader Let us bless the Lord. All Thanks be to God.
