10:00 Am Service Palm Sunday Celebrant: the Rev. Andrea Christensen Preacher: the Rev St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, Agincourt Sunday, March 28, 2021 - 10:00 am Service Palm Sunday Celebrant: The Rev. Andrea Christensen Preacher: The Rev. Dr. Kathy Buligan Readings: Isaiah 50:4-9a Psalm 31:9-16 Philippians 2:5-11 Mark 11:1-11 Those Assisting in our Worship Today Pianist: Raymond Cheong Soloist: Sofia Rahul Readers: Penny Laity/ Peter Saarimaki Intercessor: Peter Saarimaki Zoom Host: Pastor Elaine Vanderwerf Tech: Ben Conn PRELUDE PSALM 118:1-2, 19-29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his mercy endures for ever. Let Israel now proclaim, ”His mercy endures for ever.” Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them; I will offer thanks to the Lord. ”This is the gate of the Lord; he who is righteous may enter.” I will give thanks to you, for you answered me and have become my salvation. The same stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes. On this day the Lord has acted; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Hosannah, Lord, hosannah! Lord, send us now success. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; we bless you from the house of the Lord. God is the Lord; he has shined upon us; form a procession with branches up to the horns of the altar. ”You are my God, and I will thank you; you are my God, and I will exalt you.” Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his mercy endures for ever. THE LITURGY OF THE PALMS Leader Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. All Hosanna in the highest. 1 Leader Dear friends in Christ, during Lent… Let them be for us signs of the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. All Amen. THE PROCESSION Leader Let us go forth in peace. All In the name of Christ. Amen. ♫ HYMN IN PROCESSION Hosanna, Loud Hosanna 1. Hosanna loud hosanna The little children sang. Through pillar’d court and temple The lovely anthem rang. To Jesus who had blessed them Close folded to His breast. The children sang their praises The simplest and the best. 2. From Olivet they followed Mid an exultant crowd. The victor palm branch waving And chanting clear and loud. The Lord of men and angels Rode on in lowly state. Nor scorned that little children Should on His biding wait. 3. Hosanna in the highest That ancient song we sing. For Christ is our Redeemer The Lord of heav'n our King. O may we ever praise Him With heart and life and voice. And in His blissful presence Eternally rejoice. 2 Celebrant Let us pray, All Almighty God, whose Son was crucified yet entered into glory, may we, walking in the way of the cross, find it is for us the way of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. ♫ ENTRANCE HYMN Praise is Rising (Hosanna) by: Brenton Brown & Paul Baloche Verse 1 Praise is rising Eyes are turning to You. We turn to You Hope is stirring. Hearts are yearning for You We long for You. Pre-Chorus 'Cause when we see You We find strength to face the day. In Your presence All our fears are washed away. (Washed away) Chorus Hosanna hosanna You are the God who saves us Worthy of all our praises. Hosanna hosanna Come have Your way among us We welcome You here Lord Jesus. Verse 2 Hear the sound of Hearts returning to You. We turn to You In Your Kingdom. Broken lives are made new You make us new. Ending Hosanna hosanna. 3 THE COLLECT OF THE DAY FIRST READING: Isaiah 50:4-9a PSALM 31:9-16 SECOND READING: Philippians 2:5-11 THE GOSPEL: Mark 11:1-11 R: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ. /Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. SERMON THE NICENE CREED Leader Let us confess our faith, as we say, All We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 4 THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION Leader Dear friends in Christ, God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy; he welcomes sinners and invites them to his table. Let us confess our sins, confident in God’s forgiveness. Silence is kept. Leader Most merciful God, All We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen. Leader Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All Amen. THE PEACE Leader The peace of the Lord be always with you. All And also with you. THE CELEBRATION OF THE EUCHARIST THE PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS EUCHARISTIC PRAYER #3 Leader The Lord be with you. All And also with you. Leader Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord. Leader Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All It’s right to give our thanks and praise. 5 LENT PREFACE HOLY, HOLY, HOLY (said) All Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Leader We give thanks to you, Lord our God… Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” Therefore, Father, according to his command, All We remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory; Leader and we offer our sacrifice of praise… by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. All Amen. THE LORD’S PRAYER (said) Leader And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD #7 Leader We break this bread, All Communion in Christ’s body once broken. Leader Let your Church be the wheat which bears its fruit in dying. All If we have died with him, we shall live with him; if we hold firm, we shall reign with him. 6 THE COMMUNION Leader The gifts of God for the People of God. All Thanks be to God. LAMB OF GOD (said) Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: grant us peace. For those observing spiritual communion, please light your candle at this time. You may wish to use the following prayer: Lord Jesus, you came as a light that shines in darkness and that darkness cannot overpower; enlighten our hearts and minds to your presence, here and now. My Jesus, I believe that you are present with us at all times. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.

  • Youth Group @ Home Sunday 17Th May 2020
Youth group @ Home Sunday 17th May 2020 Christian Character – Session 5: Being Joyful Good morning and welcome to session 5 of Youth Group @ Home. Each week we are going to look at a different element of what builds Christian character. Last week we looked at being patient, this week we are going to explore how we can be more joyful. Why not go through today’s session with family or friends? You could always Zoom call some friends and go through the activities together. Activity Put the list below in order with what you think is most required for happiness at number 1, down to what is least required for happiness at number 10. ● money ● top job ● boyfriend/girlfriend ● feeling close to God ● fame ● dream house ● health ● a great body ● close friends Discuss the following: Why did you choose the order that you did? Is there anything else you think should have been included in your list? Are all the things on the list reliable (i.e. will they ALWAYS make you happy)? Think Do you think there is a difference between Happiness and Joy? Happiness is usually thought of as an emotion that is created purely from our physical circumstances, now God can make us happy when he changes our circumstances so that they can bring us happiness but the Bible says joyfulness is different, something that develops in us as we get closer to God (read Galatians 5:22). What do you think this means i.e. should a Christian always smile? Will someone who knows God never cry or be cross? Should they be happy when bad things happen? Although often Christians will be happy because of the circumstances that they’re in, when the Bible talks about joy, it is describing a feeling of deep spiritual contentment that comes from trusting that God knows what's going on and will look after you.

  • From Texts for Common Prayer the Anglican Church in North America
From Texts for Common Prayer The Anglican Church in North America The Purpose Behind the Practice Christians throughout history have believed that worship is done not just with the mind but with the body and spirit as well. Here at Christ the Redeemer we fully embrace this ancient pattern of practice, and we attempt to engage all of our senses as we worship. Because there are some things we can't always see with our eyes, we do visual things —like wearing vestments (colorful garments) and following a cross—to remind us of the larger, spiritual reality of which we’re all a part, Prayer and praise, giving and receiving, standing and kneeling, speaking and listening, smelling and tasting, seeing and doing—these are all means to help us come close, in a physical way, to the spiritual reality of God. The guide you hold in your hands is offered as a resource to help you worship. You are welcome to engage at whatever level you are most comfortable. And no one is watching to see if you’re doing everything “correctly. “ In sincere worship there’s no such thing as a mistake, so just relax and go for it! We’ll be happy to answer any questions following the service. This symbol is a prompt for making the Sign of the Cross. May our Lord Jesus Christ abundantly bless you as you draw near to him today. It’s Okay to turn on your mobile device in church! If you’re using it as a digital worship guide, that is.
