DOI: https://doi. org/10.15177/seefor.18-17 received: 21 Nov 2018; revised: 12 Dec 2018; Accepted: 14 Dec 2018; Published online: 22 Dec 2018 abStraCt Background and Purpose: The pine-tree lappet moth, Dendrolimus pini, is a widely distributed pest in Europe that can cause serious needle defoliation on pines, with outbreaks occurring over large geographical areas. In Croatia the presence of D. pini was recorded only in the continental part, but not in a high level of abundance, and the outbreak of the population has never been recorded so far. Materials and Methods: In autumn 2014 an unexpected and complete defoliation on Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis Mill.) occurred in the vicinity of Skradin, near Šibenik, and was followed by defoliation in summer and autumn 2017 in Telašćica Nature Park, Dugi otok. Infested areas were inspected and overwintering larvae in soil surface were counted in order to estimate the population and assess whether the critical number of the population has been exceeded. Specimens were collected and transferred to the Laboratory for Entomological Analysis in the Croatian Forest Research Institute for further laboratory analysis. Results: Since more than 10 larvae per m² of soil surface were found, it was concluded that an outbreak occurred at both localities. In both cases natural antagonists played an important role in lowering the pest population. In Skradin, entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana that occurred on the overwintering larvae broke the pest population, and in Dugi otok it was recorded, but to a much lesser extent and in combination withDrino inconspicua parasitoid. In both cases pines recovered very well in the following spring, with some bark beetle attacks mostly at the edge of the forest. Conclusions: The outbreaks of D. pini resulting with a total defoliation of Aleppo pine stands, and the fact that they occurred in the Mediterranean region

Information regarding where and when they were all found is given herein. KEY WORDS: geometrid moths, measuring worms, new record, taxonomy Introduction With more than 23000 species, Geometridae is one of the largest families of the order Lepidoptera (Choi et al., 2017). About 900 species have been found to date in Europe (Hausmann, 2001). Some of them are significant pests in agriculture and forestry (Carter, 1984; Barbour, 1988; Glavendekić, 2002; Pernek et al., 2013). Two of the hosts are recorded for the first time. These two host-parasitoid couples are Apterogenum ypsillon (Denis and Schiffermüller, 1775) (Noctuidae) for Pales pavida (Meigen, 1824) and Ephelis cruentalis (Geyer, 1832) (Pyralidae) for Clemelis pullata (Meigen, 1824). INTRODUCTION Tachinidae is one of the largest families of Diptera with about 8,500 species (O’Hara 2013). The family gains importance in agricultural and forest fields ecologically and economically because all of the species of this family are parasitoids of insects and other arthropods. Many hosts are lepidopteran pests, some of which cause considerable damage unless they are controlled. Other hosts are species that belong to the orders Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Orthoptera, Diptera and Lithobiomorpha (Grenier, 1988; Stireman et al., 2006; Tschorsnig, 2017). It is located here: http://www.cabi.org/cabreviews © CAB International 2016 (Online ISSN 1749-8848) Abstract Non-target impacts of parasitoids and predaceous arthropods used for classical biological control of invasive insects include five types of impact: (1) direct attacks on native insects; (2) negative foodweb effects, such as competition for prey, apparent competition, or displacement of native species; (3) positive foodweb effects that benefited non-target species; (4) hybridization of native species with introduced natural enemies; and (5) attacks on introduced weed biocontrol agents. Examples are presented and the commonness of effects discussed. For the most recent three decades (1985–2015), analysis of literature on the host range information for 158 species of parasitoids introduced in this period showed a shift in the third decade (2005–2015) towards a preponderance of agents with an index of genus-level (60%) or species-level (8%) specificity (with only 12% being assigned a family-level or above index of specificity) compared with the first and second decades, when 50 and 40% of introductions had family level or above categorizations of specificity and only 21–27 (1985–1994 and 1995–2004, respectively) with genus or 1–11% (1985–1994 and 1995–2004, respectively) with species-level specificity.
