Manitoba Family Services and Consumer Affairs Disability Programs and Employment and Income Assistance Community Living disABILITY Services Community Living disABILITY Services Community Living disABILITY Services of Manitoba Family Services and Consumer Affairs provides a range of support services for Manitobans living with an intellectual disability and their families. The program supports eligible adults to live safely and participate fully in the community. Delivery of services is based on the goals that individu- als living with an intellectual disability should have the opportunity to: • lead satisfying, productive lives in their communities • make their own decisions and direct their own lives, with support if needed • stay connected with their families • develop friendships and other relationships in the community Services are co-ordinated through community service workers who are located in regional offices throughout the province. Supports and services are planned around the unique abilities and needs of each individual. Services may include: • assessment, co-ordination, planning, resource development and counselling • protection services to ensure reports of abuse and neglect of vulnerable persons are investigated and necessary supports are provided • residential, day and support services Residential Services Residential services include a range of supports to assist individuals to live in the community. This may include: • independent living with supports – skill development and support for adults to live on their own • family home – supports for an individual to live with parents or extended family • residential care facilities – accommodation, care and supports through an agency or private operator Another model that is available is In the Company of Friends where participants direct their own funding and are linked with volunteer support networks in the community. Day Services Day Services include a range of supports and training to help individuals to participate in the community through one or more of the following activities: • supported employment and follow-up services – support individuals in paid jobs in community settings • vocationally focused services – help develop, maintain and enhance vocational and social skills. These services may be provided in a day service facility or community setting. • personal development services – develop, maintain and enhance an individual’s personal care and social skills, emotional growth, physical development, and community skills.
