MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to provide opportunities and services to adults 50 and better.

Senior center participants logged 237,757 visits throughout 2019 where participants shared meals, utilized the fitness centers, participated in SOA manages the Dining socialization activities, and Sites at each center for the attended educational Milwaukee County programing. CONTINUING OUR MISSION
Spring of 2020 brought a lot of unknowns and continuous changes. The centers closed to all participants with no idea when they would reopen. However, even with empty centers, SOA’s mission did not change. We strive to continue helping older adults wherever possible. This manifested itself in three significant ways. The first being a continuation of our lunch program. Participants called the center to make reservations and center staff brought meals to participants at their cars. We were also able to offer delivery with the help of Able Access. This gave participants the ability to receive a meal even if they could not leave their home or did not feel safe doing so. The second place our centers continued their mission was in wellness calls. This task was taken on by each center to ensure that every participant received a call from SOA staff or volunteer in order to ensure that our participants had everything they needed. The last area SOA focused on continuing their mission was by empowering seniors to give back. While doing wellness calls staff and volunteers identified a need for masks. SOA put out a call to the sewing & quilting groups, and hundreds of masks were created, and donated to the centers. Theses masks were then distributed to people who needed them. While there were many hardships during this time, one of the amazing things that came out of this was a sense of camaraderie. No matter who we spoke to on the phone, we asked how they were doing but they also asked how all of us were doing. It is only during times like these that we are able to see the best in people and we were proud of the positivity our participants held on to. While this went smoothly overall, we are excited to be able to once again offer a full array of activities for our participants.

A Stockbox is a box of healthy foods that Hunger Task Force delivers to lowincome seniors free of charge. Each box contains 16 nutritious items including rice, cereal, juice, beef stew, pasta and vegetables. Every month, nearly 9,000 boxes are delivered to seniors in Southeastern Wisconsin. Each of our five senior centers participate in a Stockbox distribution day once a month. Visit your site’s page in this guide to learn the date, or call your senior center. Bea and Charles have been attending Washington Park Senior Center for the past twenty years. The mother son duo are part of the lunch program, they do arts and crafts, and both volunteer their time to help improve the center. Bea transplants plants to be sold in the gift shop and Charles waters all the plants in the center. Charles is also involved in walking groups and says the center helps keep him healthy.
